BETHEL, VT — Rebecca “Becky” Colby Farmer, 91, died on May 24, 2020 at Menig Nursing Home in Randolph Center.
She was born August 11, 1928 in Woodstock, VT to Maxwell Gerald Colby and Eleanor Olmstead Colby. She attended Woodstock schools.
On November 27, 1947 she married John Farmer of Bethel, where they lived and raised a son and four daughters. John predeceased her in August 2000. In January 2016 Becky moved to Joslyn House in Randolph.
Becky worked at G.W. Plastics and in the Bethel school kitchen. She was a gifted seamstress and enjoyed quilting as a member of Delectable Mountain Quilters. Her passion was writing. She wrote many stories based on her life experiences; several were published in local newspapers and magazines.
Survivors include: son, Rodney Farmer of Fairfield, VT; daughters, Cynthia Bushey of Northfied, VT, Marcia Tuthill and husband Andy of Colorado Springs, CO, Maryellen Benson and husband Frank of Royalton, VT, and Marguerite (Meg) Lambert and husband Louis of Charlestown, NH; ten grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Jeannine Colby; half sister, Bernice Colby; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Becky was predeceased by a brother, Evan Colby; half brother, Gerald Colby; and step mother Gladys Colby.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date at Old Christ Church in Bethel, where she was a devout member, with Rev. Kathy Hartman officiating. Burial will be at the Old Christ Church Cemetery. At Becky’s request there will be no calling hours.
