TUNBRIDGE, VT — Elizabeth Loeta Frary, 93, passed away at home in Tunbridge, VT on Thursday, April 23, 2020.

She was born in Tunbridge on July 24, 1926, the first child of Lesle and Marguerite (Dodge) Maxfield.

Betty was educated at the Number Three School on Potash Hill in Tunbridge and South Royalton High School in South Royalton, VT.

She married Adrian W. Frary Jr. in Tunbridge on her 18th birthday, July 24, 1944. They lived in several locations in South Royalton, Bethel and North Hartland before settling into their own home on Frary Road in South Royalton in 1955, where they raised their family and lived until they both had retired.

Following retirement Betty and “Ady” sold their house to their youngest son and bought a motor home and a house in Florida and did the “Snow Bird” thing for several years, often taking circuitous routes between VT and FL which allowed them to see most of the USA all the way to the Pacific Ocean. They spent most of those summers in their motor home at the Tunbridge Fair grounds where they served as host and hostess for the many summertime events that occur there.

In the late 1950’s and early 60’s, Betty worked as a waitress at Percy’s Atlantic Diner in Royalton. In 1964 she returned to school full time to finish her senior year, graduating from South Royalton High School in the class of 1965. She then worked a few years at Welch Brother’s Hardware in South Royalton, then took a job as a bank teller at Interstate Trust Company in White River Jct, VT. She was soon promoted to loan officer and, following the merger of Interstate Trust with the First National Bank of White River, she became manager of the Sykes Avenue branch of the new First Twin State Bank, a position she filled until her retirement.

When they were no longer comfortable traveling, Betty and Ady bought a home overlooking Tunbridge village where she has lived out the last of her years.

Betty was active in the Parent-Teachers Association when her kids were in school, serving offices of that organization up to the state level. She was a life long member of Rebekah Lodge #70 in South Royalton where she moved through the chairs to become state president of the lodge for a time.

Betty was predeceased by her parents, her step father Charles Richardson, her step mother Virginia Maxfield, and two brothers, Richard Maxfield and Robert Maxfield.

She is survived by her husband of nearly 76 years; four children: Ann (John) Fragnella of Tunbridge, Richard Frary, David (Audrey) Frary and Walter (Peggy) Frary all of South Royalton, one brother, Louis Maxfield of Ft Pierce, FL, three sister: Marjory Conley of Tavares, FL, Bernice “Bunny” Aldrich of Lenoir, NC and Lorna Eaton of Lunenburg, VT. Two sisters in law: Ruth Tuthill of Pomfret, VT and Carolyn Boone of Randolph, VT. She leaves 14 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins of several generations to carry on.

There will be no services at this time due to COVID-19 gathering restrictions. Memorial contributions may be made in her name to: Visiting Nurse and Hospice for VT and NH, PO Box 881, Brattleboro, VT 05302.
