ORANGE, NH — Dr. William David Stratton was born in Brooklyn, NY on April 16, 1934 and passed away on April 19, 2020 in his home of 45 years in Orange, NH.

David had a successful academic career, completing his undergraduate work at Wesleyan College in Connecticut; earning his Master’s Degree in Engineering from MIT where he would meet his future wife, Shirley Anne Bentley, who at the time was a graduate student in the architectural program. David and Shirley moved to California where David served in the US Navy before returning to MIT to complete his PHD in Electrical Engineering.

In the early 1970s, David entered the Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth College where he would teach electrical engineering for 31 years and form long-lasting relationships with many of his students. While at Dartmouth College, David consulted in electronics for various companies and worked with several medical doctors on bio-medical equipment. After widowed in 1982, David took to climbing the Presidential peaks with his faithful golden retriever companion, Joshua. David was a life-long stamp collector and took up hobbies of woodworking, WWII gun restoration, airplane flying, tennis, and tractor repairs. David leaves behind his niece, Amy Picotte of Underhill, Vermont, his nephew, Nigel Bentley of Acton, Massachusetts, and his brother and sister in law Geoffrey and Martha Bentley of Annisquam, Massachusetts. He also leaves his good friend and colleague from Dartmouth College, Francis Kennedy and his wife, Kram.

Many thanks to all the local home health care providers, particularly Brenda Jatko and her family, who cared for David over the last few years, his friend Joan Laplante from Service Link, and Laurie Evans from the Lake Sunapee VNA and Hospice. David also was well tended to by Dr. Barbara Lazar from DMHC.

The family will celebrate David’s life with a private gathering.
