FAIRLEE — The Aloha Foundation said Wednesday that it won’t run its three overnight camps on Lake Morey and Lake Fairlee this summer, another coronavirus-related blow to the economy in Fairlee and Thetford.
The decision affects the Aloha Camp for girls and Camp Lanakila for boys on Lake Morey and Aloha Hive, a camp for girls in grades 1 through 6, on Lake Fairlee. In addition, the Aloha Foundation’s Horizons Day Camp and Ohana Family Camp also won’t open, though the latter may be able to have guests in the late summer or early fall.
The suspension of camp programming will affect more than 2,800 campers and participants, including adults at the family camp, along with 400 counselors.
Families who have already paid the tuition for 2020 are being offered a full refund, the foundation said in a news release. The suspension of programming is the first time in the organization’s 115-year history that an Aloha camp won’t open.
Earlier this month, Camp Billings on Lake Fairlee announced it would cancel its coed camp this summer due to the pandemic.
