TUNBRIDGE, VT — Mary B. DeGowin, 91 died Friday, March 6, 2020 at the Copley Hospital in Morrisville, VT.

She was born on September 18, 1928 in Hanover, NH the daughter of Lewis and Flossie (Seace) Bennett. At a young age she came to live in South Tunbridge with the Ed and Nora Blake family. She was raised as their own daughter with “sisters” Doris and Lucille.

On June 24, 1950 she married Gordon DeGowin of Mt. Holly, VT. They lived a short time in South Royalton, VT before moving to North Tunbridge where they raised their two daughters.

Mary worked as a seamstress for Van Raalte Corp. in Randolph, VT and later for Anichini Inc. in Tunbridge, VT before retiring.

For the last few years Mary made her home at an assisted living facility in Morrisville, VT to be near her daughter, Kim.

She was a member of the Lady Washington Chapter #86 O.E.S. in Chelsea, VT and the South Tunbridge Methodist Church.

She enjoyed sewing and taught many local children to sew when she was their 4-H sewing instructor. She also liked to crochet and watch Nascar racing.

She is survived by her two daughters, Kimberly DeGowin and her husband, Chuck Lambert of Morrisville, VT and Darlene DeGowin of Jacksonville, FL. She was predeceased by her husband, Gordon DeGowin; a brother, Louis Bennett and sisters, Doris Thompson and Lucille Welch.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 13, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. with an Eastern Star service at 7:00 p.m. at the Boardway & Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RT 110, Chelsea, VT. A graveside funeral service will be held later this springtime in the Village Cemetery in Tunbridge.
