HANOVER — Ivy League men’s hockey co-player of the year Drew O’Connor traded a Big Green sweater for one of the Pittsburgh Penguins, signing an two-year entry-level contract with the NHL team on Tuesday.
O’Connor, a sophomore, led the ECAC with 21 goals and 33 points this season. He became the first Dartmouth skater in 40 years to lead the ECAC in goals, getting 16 in conference action.
The New Jersey native will finish winter exams this week, then report to the Pens’ Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (Pa.) affiliate in the AHL to finish their season on amateur tryout contact.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Dartmouth junior Justin Sodokoff qualified for the upcoming NCAA diving championship with his performance on the one-meter board at the Zone A regional at West Virginia University on Tuesday.
Sodokoff, one of 11 Ivy League competitors at zones, took second place in preliminary-round attempts with 336.70 points, trailing only Navy’s Bradley Buchter (388.40). He added another 283.95 points in the finals to finish second overall (672.35). Buchter (765.50) took the meet.
Sodokoff is the first Big Green diver to make nationals since Toby Hays and Courtney DuBois both qualified in 1999. The NCAA championship is March 25-28 in Indianapolis.
