BURLINGTON — The new coronavirus has finally reached Vermont, according the Vermont Department of Health.

Officials Saturday night announced the state’s first presumptive positive test result for COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus that has spread to every continent except Antarctica.

Health Department officials said in a news release that the patient, an adult, has been hospitalized in an airborne isolation room while they await confirmation of the test result by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Investigators said they are looking into the person’s travel history and personal contacts to determine exposure risk for others.
