CANAAN, NH — Albert “Bud” O. Decato, Sr. died on January 9, 2020 at age 85. He was born in 1934 to Gladys (Valia) and Romeo Decato in Mt. Kisco, NY. The family soon moved back to their home state and settled in Grafton, NH. Albert attended Canaan and Lebanon schools before serving in the Navy as a Seabee from 1952 -1955. In 1956 he married Anne Marie Mains of Bath, ME.
Albert had a long career at Split Ball Bearing (The Timken Co.). In his younger years, he enjoyed sprint car-racing, motorcycling (he was the first person to ride to the summit of Mt. Cardigan on a motorcycle) and snowmobiling. In retirement, Al and Anne Marie became active supporters of the Northern Rail Trail of Grafton County and traveled across the country in their RV.
Albert is survived by his son, Albert Jr. and wife Mary of North Richland Hills, TX, and by his daughter Sheryl (Decato) Matheny and her husband Mark of Warrenton, VA; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Anne Marie (April 21, 2019), his father, Romeo Decato, his mother Gladys (Decato) Severance and her husband Dean Severance and by his younger brother Romeo Martin Decato.
