DUBLIN, N.H. — The Hanover and Lebanon Nordic ski teams each claimed runaway victories in the Con-Val Classic on Saturday. The Marauders owned five of the top six places in the boys race, while the Raiders were nearly as dominant with five of the top seven in the girls race.

Lebanon’s Zoe Chinn won the girls race in 13 minutes, 25 seconds. Celia Barnett was third (13:53), and Brianna Debanico was fifth (14:04). Ana Goodwin took sixth in 14:23, ahead of Maria Goodwin in seventh (14:44).

Noah Phipps won the boys race for Hanover in 10:51. Teammate Adam Gilbert-Diamond was a close second in 10:59. The Marauders also had Diego Aspinwall in third (11:23), Peter Burnham in fourth (11:26) and Alpine skiing standout Eric Goodney in sixth (11:49).

Goodney’s sixth-place finish comes in just his second week ever racing on classic Nordic skis. The senior is setting his sights on the NHIAA skimeister title, which combines Alpine and Nordic disciplines. Jeff Colt last won the honor for Hanover in 2009, according to NHIAA annals.

Meg Frost took second for the Hanover girls in 13:29. Sage Gilbert-Diamond was fourth (13:58), ahead of teammates Britta Arvold (15th, 15:51) and June Clark (22nd, 17:09).

Cooper Bourne was fifth in 11:28 to lead the Lebanon boys. Simon Amaro was eighth (11:59), Tyler St. Martin 12th (12:31) and Seth Carl 13th (12:36).

Girls BasketballWRV 40, Woodstock 22

SOUTH ROYALTON — Freshman Ella Perreault had 13 points and 16 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (7-2) over the Wasps (1-8).

The game was part of a daylong series of games at WRV at every level from elementary school through varsity, with the goal of raising funds for the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at DHMC.

The Wildcats’ Sarah Howe added 10 points, Sylvie Coltey had eight points and Toni Turner helped lock down the boards with nine rebounds. WRV is back in action at West Rutland on Monday.

Emma Tarleton had 12 points for Woodstock, which plays host to Windsor on Tuesday.

Hartford 58, Otter Valley 34

BRANDON, Vt. — The Hurricanes evened their record at 5-5 with a dominant road win.

The Canes led, 28-13, at halftime and built on that lead in the second half. Hartford’s Jasmine Jenkins led all scorers with 17 points. Kennedy Mullen added 14, Beth Dobrich eight and Bailey Cameron seven. In all, eight Hartford players scored.

Hartford travels to Mill River on Monday.

Windsor 74, Newport 31

WINDSOR — The Yellowjackets improve to 10-2 and travel to Woodstock on Tuesday. Newport drops to 2-7 and is on the road at Monadnock on Tuesday.

Boys BasketballHarwood 66, Thetford 60 (2 OT)

THETFORD — The Panthers were outscored, 10-4, in the second overtime in the loss.

Thetford took an eight-point lead after one quarter, but from there it was an evenly matched contest with TA (7-5) up just two points at halftime. The teams were tied after the third and fourth quarters.

Eli Dunnet led the Panthers with 18 points. Eamon Deffner had 15 and Jacob Gilman 10.

“Harwood played very hard for the 40-minute game, and we did not match the tempo, Thetford coach Jason Gray said.

Thetford travels to Lamoille on Tuesday.

Lyndon 64, Oxbow 60

BRADFORD, Vt. — Despite Bryce Ilsley’s 30 points, the Olympians fell at Mona Garone Gym.

The teams were knotted at 12 after the first quarter, but Lyndon outscored Oxbow, 21-7, in the second to take a 33-19 halftime lead, extending it to 52-33 after three.

Jace Page had seven points and Hunter Locke six for Oxbow (3-9). The Olympians travel to Lake Region on Tuesday.

KUA 62, Vermont Academy 55

MERIDEN — The Wildcats opened the game on a 20-8 run and held on to earn the win.

Rob Brown had 23 points for KUA. Quinn Guth had 10 points in the early run. The Wildcats visit Cushing Academy on Sunday.

WRV 44, Woodstock 42

SOUTH ROYALTON — The Wildcats (7-4) forced a Woodstock turnover in the final seconds to secure a narrow victory.

White River Valley held a 44-39 lead when the Wasps’ Harrison Morse canned a corner 3-pointer to draw within a basket. After a quick foul and a missed WRV free throw, Woodstock tried to set up a tying or winning hoop only to have the Wildcats steal possession away.

Carder Stratton had 15 points and Dominic Craven netted third for WRV. Morse had a game-high 16 points for the Wasps (1-12), whose last five losses have been by six points or fewer.

Girls HockeyWoodstock 3, Middlebury 1

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps (5-6-0) scored once in each period for a much-needed win.

Sami Yates put the hosts in front in the first, scoring with assists to Lizzy Peck and Eliza Dodson. Kendyl Boisvert and Allie Cimis added goals with an additional assist going to both Dodson and Peck. Goalie Ava Dodson made nine saves for the Wasps.

“It’s a huge win. Things are starting to pay off from practice, focusing on better shots, more puck movement,” Woodstock coach Ian Coates said. “The defense was playing really well, too. Hopefully there will be more to come.”

The Wasps hit the road on Monday for a makeup game at BFA-St. Albans.

Hanover 6, Exeter 2

EXETER, N.H. — Sage McGinley-Smith had a four-goal, one-assist night and Gail Morse scored her first two career goals as the Marauders (5-5-1, 5-3-1) rallied from an early one-goal deficit.

McGinley-Smith sandwiched her first two goals around Morse’s first strike to turn a 1-0 hole into a 3-1 lead at the second intermission. McGinley-Smith finished her hat trick early in the third, then she and Morse scored again to put the win in Hanover’s pocket.

Meredith Morhun had two assists. Morse joined Natalie Morhun, Lily Seelig and Sophia Brackett in the one-assist club. Katie Smith finished with 14 saves, aided by strong defensive play from Natalie Morhun and Danielle Rudd.

Hanover caps a four-game road trip at Brady-Trinity-West on Wednesday.

Spaulding 6, Hartford 0

BARRE, Vt. — The undefeated Crimson Tide (11-0-0) shut out the Hurricanes (0-10-0).

Spaulding scored four goals in the first period and then added two more in the third. Goalie Zoey Pfeiffer had a busy night for the Canes with 22 saves while drawing praise from coach Bill Goldsworthy for her play against a potent Spaulding attack.

Hartford visits Champlain Valley on Wednesday night.

Boys HockeyHartford 3, Burlington 1

BURLINGTON — The Hurricanes improved to 8-4-1 with a win over the Seahorses at Leddy Park Arena.

A.J. DeBois, Aidan Boonyaharn and Jacob Dwinell all scored unassisted for the Canes. DeBois struck shorthanded, while Dwinell’s goal was an empty-netter to seal the win in the final minutes. Goalie Colby Boyce made 16 saves for Hartford, which outshot Burlington, 36-17.

The Canes host Brattleboro on Wednesday.

St. Thomas 1 Lebanon-Stevens-MRA 0

DOVER, N.H. — Lebanon played the defending state champions even until St. Thomas scored the game’s lone goal early in the third period.

Goalie Toby Cromwell had 23 saves for Lebanon, which was outshot 24-17.

“Our guys skated a hard, clean game,” Lebanon coach Jim Damren said. “We played a really solid hockey game. They are defending state champs, so it proves we can play with anybody.”

Lebanon hosts Berlin on Wednesday.

Hanover 2, Windham 1 (OT)

SALEM, N.H. — Jack Stadheim stood his ground in heavy traffic and banged home the winning goal 58 seconds into overtime for the Marauders (8-3-0, 6-2-0).

Hanover took control of the OT draw, moved into the Jaguars’ end and pounded the net on multiple chances before Stadheim converted. Patrick Daley and Curtis Rice earned assists.

Jack Gardner scored in the second period from Casey Graham and Tono Correa to bring Hanover back from a 1-0 first-intermission gap. Ben Plottner had 23 saves, including 10 in the third period.

The Marauders visit Londonderry at Tri-Town Arena in Hooksett on Saturday.

KUA 5, Stanstead 3

MERIDEN — The top line of Tomas Mazura, Sullivan Mack and Zach Whitehead combined for nine points to lead KUA (16-5-1).

Mazura had four assists, Mack had two goals and one assist, and Whitehead scored a pair of goals. Luca Fantilli added a goal in the third period, assisted by his brother, Adam. KUA led, 2-0, after the first period and then 4-2 after two.

Goalie Veeti Kohvakka made 31 saves for the Wildcats, who visit Phillips Exeter on Wednesday.

Woodstock 4, Missisquoi 1

WOODSTOCK — The Wasps (7-2-2) pummeled 35 shots on the Thunderbirds’ net and got one-goal, one-assist games from Chase Christensen and Owen Coates at Union Arena.

Dylan DesChamp and Christensen gave Woodstock all the lead it would need with first-period strikes. MVU’s Kyle Gilbert scored shorthanded early in the middle stanza, but a Christensen-fed goal from Coates re-established the two-goal cushion. Charles Greene closed the scoring in the third stanza on a Coates helper.

BowlingWindsor falls in finals

BARRE, Vt. — Top-seeded Windsor ran into a scorching-hot Fair Haven team in a three-game Baker bowl finals loss.

The Yellowjackets took the top seed after qualifying. Rayce Gilbert led the way with a 175-226— 401 set. Brayton Bailey had 192-201 and Grayson Frazer had 182-199. Samantha Erskine, coming in with a 135 season average, rolled 184-188.

White River Valley qualified fourth, led by Hannah Bryan with 128-171. The Wildcats also had strong efforts by Nick Ramos (133-152) and Kaleb Thornton (136-142).

Windsor won the first game of the finals against Fair Haven, 217-178, before the Slaters won two straight (228-188, 206-170).

“All season long, Fair Haven has only thrown one 200 game, and they had two against us. That’s how it goes sometimes,” Windsor coach Steve Bly said.

Windsor, along with Hartford and Fair Haven, will visit Brattleboro on Saturday.

Randolph wins; Hartford fourth

CLAREMONT — Randolph defeated South Burlington, 2-0, in the best-of-three Baker final to win a four-team match at Maple Lanes.

Randolph was seeded second after qualifying and defeated third-seeded Brattleboro, 2-0, in the Baker semifinals.

Hartfford was the fourth-seeded team after the qualifying round and lost to top seed South Burlington, 2-0, before falling to Brattleboro in the consolation match, 2-1.

Hartford’s Cean Lieberman Jr. provided a highlight in qualifying with a 225 game. Other Hartford scores included Ryan Burnham with a 171 and Hailey Rogers with 146.

Hartford travels to Brattleboro on Saturday for a match that will include Windsor.

Ski JumpingHanover takes second

NORTH CONWAY, N.H. — The Marauders finished second behind host Kennett in a meet on Friday night.

Cam Forbush was second overall for Hanover, including the highest cumulative style points of any jumper on the night. Teddy Ruth was third with the night’s two longest jumps at 29.5 and 28.5 meters. The Marauders also had Felix Estes in seventh and Tage Colberg in 11th.

Hanover’s Sabin Mitchell was 16th overall and the top scoring girl in the event.

Kennett’s Matt Grzesik won the meet with 192 points.

Marauders dominate again

CLAREMONT — The Hanover boys and girls continued their winning ways in a four-team meet at the Claremont Community Center, capturing first place in most events.

The Marauders, competing against Lebanon, Stevens and Kearsarge, opened with a win in both the girls 200-yard medley with Maggie Wenger, Grace Wenger, Emma Dunbar and Jocelyn Hazen. The boys team of Andres Savellano, Chris Rieseberg, Benton Cesanek and Kieran Artman also won their relay.

Individual Hanover victors included Grace Wenger (200 free, 100 butterfly), Maggie Wenger (100 back, 100 breast), Savellano (200 free) and Rieseberg (200 individual medley, 100 breaststroke). Chantelle Rafie won the 200 IM, Dunbar the 50 free and Cesanek the 100 butterfly. Hanover’s Isabel Brennan claimed the 100 free, and Artman was first for the Hanover boys. Jaclyn Hazen won the girls 500 free.

For Lebanon, Aidan Urnezis won the 50 free and Zethan Moss the 500 free.

The teams get together for another meet on Friday at the CCBA’s Witherell Recreation Center pool.
