DURHAM, N.H. — Mascoma High’s Opal and Ella Shinnlinger placed third and fourth, respectively, in the girls shot put on Sunday at the Paul Sweet Oval on the campus of the University of New Hampshire in indoor track action.
Newport’s Darshawn Chesser took second place in the boys long jump. His teammate, Marius Edwards, jumped over five meters in the high jump for second place as well. Tiger Mason Martell finished the 55-meter hurdles in 8.25 seconds for first place. He also placed third in the 300-meter dash, finishing in 40.35 seconds.
The 4×160 meter relay team from Newport of Chesser, Jagger Lovely, Ryder Lovely and Sean Moody grabbed second place thanks to finishing the race in 1:19.03.
Brooke Johnson, also from Newport, placed second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 8.70 seconds.

MEN’S HOCKEY
HANOVER — The Big Green (7-3-1 league, 10-5-3 overall) gave up the game’s first goal after just 84 seconds, then turned things around to complete a sweep of its ECAC Hockey weekend. Dartmouth moved into a four-way tie for third place in the league with the victory.
The Saints (1-12-0, 3-19-3) took the lead on Callum Cusinato’s first goal of the season at 1:24 of the opening period. Cam Strong leveled for Dartmouth about four minutes later, and Will Graber put the Big Green ahead to stay before the stanza’s midpoint.
Drew O’Connor added his team-leading 11th goal of the season in the second period. Goaltender Adrian Clark needed just 14 saves for the victory.
The Big Green visits Cornell on Friday. The Big Red will be looking to avenge a loss to Dartmouth from earlier this season.
CRAFTSBURY, Vt. — Katherine Ogden won her first race of the season by more than 20 seconds as the Big Green placed third as a team at the season-opening Harvard Carnival.
Ogden, who was second in Friday’s 5K freestyle, broke the tape in Saturday’s 15K classical in 46 minutes, 31.0 seconds at the Craftsbury Nordic Center. Mara McCollor was third behind Ogden. Hanover’s Adam Glueck pace the Dartmouth men for the second straight day, taking 16th place (56:46.0) in their 20K classical.
Over at Waterville Valley, Dartmouth skiers put together two runner-up finishes in giant slalom action. Drew Duffy podiumed for the second straight day for the Big Green men, taking second in a combined time of 2:07.53, trailing only UNH’s Patrick Kenney. Ellie Curtis took second for the Dartmouth women in 2:12.55, in a race won by UVM’s Maria Vilanova.
The Big Green amassed 839 points. Vermont edged Middlebury, 867-863, for the carnival win.
UVM hosts next weekend’s carnival action in Stowe.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Jasmine Jenkins scored 12 of her team-, game- and career-high 29 points in the first quarter to set the Hurricanes (4-4) on their way to a dominant victory at Hanley Gymnasium.
Jenkins finished the night with four 3-pointers as Hartford controlled the contest from the get-go. Kennedy Mullen had a pair of trifectas on a 12-point night. Davan Murphy added seven points, and all nine Canes who played contributed at least one basket.
Hartford pays neighboring Windsor a visit Monday night.

BRATTLEBORO, Vt. — One goal was enough for the Colonels (7-3-1) to outlast the Wasps (6-2-2) at Nelson Withington Rink.
Woodstock returns to action on Saturday, hosting Missisquoi at Union Arena.
