Gary Merchant has been bestowed the 2019 Bowl of Hygeia Award by the New Hampshire Pharmacists Association for outstanding community service.
Merchant, a Democratic state representative from Claremont, was recognized for his service in many civic groups, including the Claremont Rotary Club, Sullivan County Hospice board of directors, and Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Claremont, where he was president and on the board.
A 1971 graduate of Stevens High School, Merchant has made a career in pharmacy that included 17 years at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, where he led the New England Pharmacy Collaborative, an organization comprising 17 hospitals affiliated with the medical center focused on pharmacy initiatives.
The Cohase Chamber of Commerce has named Newbury, Vt.-based Craig Hervey Housewright Construction its 2019 Business of the Year.
Founded by Craig Hervey 34 years ago, the chamber said, the 26-employee home builder has had a five-year annual growth rate of 153% and is being recognized for its โcore values of fairness, honesty, teamwork, empathy and finding creative solutions to problems leading the way.โ
The award will be presented to Hervey and his wife, Lisa Hervey, vice president of the company, at the chamberโs annual dinner on Jan. 21 at Alumni Hall in Haverhill Corner, N.H.
The Herveys retired at the beginning of the year and have transferred ownership of the business to chief operating officer Jeff Page.
