ENFIELD, NH — Esther Elizabeth Bruce, 91, passed away peacefully at home Monday evening, January 13, 2020. She was born March 26, 1928 in Jaffrey, NH to Agnes Mabel (Bosley) and Frederick Charles Buckwold. Esther moved to Canaan, NH with her family in her teens and attended school there. She married Robert Dana Bruce.
Over the years Esther worked at the Canaan Hardware, but freelanced wallpapering, painting and upholstering on her own. She loved sewing and quilting and was employed at quilt shop in White River Junction, VT for a time. For many years she was the proprietor of Esther’s Shop, buying and selling treasures she discovered at yard sales.
Esther is survived by her husband, Robert Bruce of Enfield, NH; daughter, Dona (Chris) Staley of Nashua, NH; son, Jason (Carol) Bruce of Texas; eight grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Agnes Buckwold; sons, Dana Bruce, Scott Bruce, and Maxwell Bruce; and brother, Frederick Buckwold.
No services are planned at this time. Esther’s urn will be placed beside her family members at Wells Cemetery in Canaan in the spring.
