LEBANON, NH — Gladys Rosemary Scott Sellew, “Scottie” died December 17, 2019, after a brief illness. The daughter of Clifton and Mildred (Bradford) Scott, she was born on September 13, 1923, and grew up in Ashfield, MA. Scottie attended UMass and graduated in 1945 as an RN from the Springfield Hospital. In 1946 she married Roland E. Sellew. The couple settled in Middletown, CT, where they raised three children. Scottie was employed as a nurse at the Rocky Hill Veterans Hospital until her retirement.
Scottie loved sailing and the family spent summers exploring Long Island Sound on their boat. She was a good skier and competed at the NASTAR finals (Aspen, 1979 and Heavenly Valley, 1981). She skied Mt. Bachelor, Courchevel, Valle Nevado, Chile, and at 84, hung up her skis after a final run down The Face at Suicide Six. Scottie loved to travel – highlights include rafting on the Green River, Utah, an Alaskan cruise, sailing the Strait of Georgia BC, vacations to Hawaii and Guam, and many happy times at the family camp in the Adirondacks. Scottie also loved to play golf, read, and do crossword puzzles.
Scottie marveled at the “providence of God” in relation to the many blessings her family has received. She is survived by Susan Sellew (Art Stacy), Bradford Sellew, Rosemary Sellew (Rod Sedlacek); her grandson Andrew Sedlacek; brothers Roger B. Scott, Fredric W. Scott, DVM, and their wives; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband; and her brother Edward W. Scott and his wife.
Scottie moved to Lebanon in 2014. Her family wishes to thank the residents and staff of Harvest Hill for their friendship, compassion and care. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that you think of Scottie while enjoying your next walk or favorite ski run. Drive a golf ball in her memory or think of her while moored in a harbor at sunset.To carry on her legacy of helping others feel better about themselves, she would appreciate you making friends and greeting everyone with a smile.
