CHARLESTOWN — A woman was temporarily displaced from her home Monday after a fire burned through a two-story barn attached to her house.
No one was injured in the fire, which was called in around 9 a.m. at a barn at 79 River St., according to Charlestown Fire Chief Charlie Baraly. A neighbor saw the blaze and called the fire department. Firefighters arrived and helped the resident — who was not identified — out of her home before battling the two-alarm fire. Fire crews from towns including Claremont, Bellows Falls, Vt., and Rockingham, Vt., controlled the fire quickly, though they were still putting out hot spots Monday afternoon, Baraly said.
Baraly said the barn, which was used for storage and didn’t house any animals, was not destroyed in the fire, though it was “charred.” The adjoining house suffered some smoke damage, and the owner will stay with family until the house is repaired.
The cause of the fire is under investigation but is not considered suspicious.
