ROYALTON, VT — Verna Irene English, 96, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019 at her Royalton home, surrounded by her family. Born April 30, 1923, in West Windsor Vermont to Leland and Maude “Sally” Hull she attended schools in Brownsville, South Pomfret and Woodstock. After high school she worked in the Dewey Mills and joined the WAC’s in 1944. When she came home she worked in the Bethel Veneer Mills.

Verna met Walter English and they were married on June 14, 1947 by Reverend Moore at the Hull farm with sister Christine Clay standing up for her as the matron of honor with Leon Englsh as Walter’s best man. They were married for 71 years.

Her home businesses included boarding dogs, raising chickens and selling eggs to the First National grocery store. She also worked at Van Roth and GW Plastics and worked for many years along side her parents making Christmas wreaths at the family farm.

Her love of flower and vegetable gardening, reading and birdwatching gave her much enjoyment. She was very active at many town functions and was a charter member of the Royalton Civic Center and a member of the Royalton Congregational Church where she took great pride in cleaning and caring for both buildings.

The family remembers her as being a wonderful homemaker and enjoying fun times camping at family gatherings and cookouts all over Vermont .

She is survived by her son James English of Kansas, grandchildren Paul English of Kansas and Johnathan English of Wisconsin and three great grandchildren: Jade, Jacob and Emma of Wisconsin, brother Reggie Hull as well as many nieces and nephews.

She is predeceased by her husband Walter, her parents Lee and Sally Hull, sister Christine Clay and brothers Raymond, Maurice and Wilfred Hull.

The family would like to thank all of the many caregivers for their ongoing support that allowed Verna to live out her life at home.
