HANOVER — Having three starters in foul trouble throughout the game usually isn’t ideal if you’re looking to pick up a victory. Shooting 32.6% from the floor isn’t helpful, either.
The Dartmouth women’s basketball team had to endure both on Sunday afternoon, ultimately falling to Texas State 61-51 at Leede Arena.
The loss is the Big Green’s first at home this season.
“We’re always prepared for life happening, we talk about it all the time. You don’t necessarily always anticipate it,” Dartmouth coach Belle Koclanes said. “Like today, when I woke up this morning, of course as a coach you have to be ready for everything, I didn’t see this happening.
Annie McKenna and Katie Douglas both fouled out in the fourth quarter, and Elle Louie missed most of the first half due to early foul trouble.
The Big Green jumped out to a 7-1 first-quarter lead, but from there shots were hard to come by. In the second quarter, the home team shot 3 of 13 from the field.
Dartmouth made a run in the third quarter, grabbing a 45-44 thanks to four points from McKenna and Louie. But when Douglas and McKenna fouled out early in the fourth quarter, the momentum fell apart. The Bobcats took the lead a minute into the fourth and never trailed again.
“It’s always tough, but I always try to just keep a positive outlook and cheer on my teammates,” said Louie of her over 23 minutes spent on the bench due to foul trouble.
Dartmouth allowed 16 offensive rebounds and turned the ball over 20 times.
Asha Taylor led the Big Green with 12 points, all coming on 3-pointers. Dartmouth (5-4) had some of its best bench production of the season with Veronica Kelly contributing nine points and Anna Luce adding three.
