HARTLAND — Transportation officials are working to repair guardrails on a northbound bridge on Interstate 91 after a tractor-trailer crashed on the snowy road Friday evening, causing “extensive” damage, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.
No one was injured in the crash, which happened around 7:30 p.m. Friday in Hartland where the interstate crosses the Ottauquechee River near the confluence with the Connecticut River. The truck driver, 30-year-old Bronx man Nashatar Singh was driving northbound when he lost control on the snow-covered roadway, and the truck jack-knifed, crashing into the railings on either side of the road.
When police arrived, Singh was unharmed and able to walk, but part of the truck was “hanging off” the bridge, the release said.
Police closed the roadway from Exit 9 while the truck was removed and officials from the Vermont Agency of Transportation temporarily repaired the guardrails. However, the damage to the rails was “extensive” police said, and AOT crews worked through the night on the repairs. They opened up the road to one lane around 3 p.m. on Saturday.
