SOUTH ROYALTON, VT — Penny Jean Cross, 60 died Thursday, November 28, 2019 surrounded by the love of her family at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.
She was born June 20, 1959 in Randolph, VT the daughter of N. Fay and Pauline M. (Billings) Morrill. She attended school in Sharon, VT and later South Royalton, where she graduated from South Royalton High School in 1977. While in school she was a Majorette, a Cheerleader and years later a cheerleading coach. On September 6, 1980 she married James Cross of South Royalton. They lived all their married life in South Royalton where they raised their two sons.
She had worked at Petco Oil Company, Billings Oil Company, both of South Royalton, for Dr. Peter Dake of Sharon for six years before working as a clinical secretary at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center since 1989.
She was a member of Forest Unity #82 O.E.S. of Sharon, VT. She enjoyed camping, campfires with family and friends, Florida trips, Wells Beach, ME trips with her mom, her sister and her mother-in-law, sugaring, going to camp with Lisa, making fudge, cooking and baking, reading, having morning coffee, shopping, trap shooting at camp and turkey hunting with Jim.
Her family was her world, she supported her sons in everything they did and was always their biggest fan. Most recently she cherished the time she spent with her granddaughters Natalee and Reagan. Penny was a very friendly, kind, supportive and loving person and will be greatly missed by not only her family but also her many friends.
She is survived by her husband of 39 years Jim Cross, two sons Travis Cross and Lee Cross (Amanda) and granddaughters Natalee and Reagan of South Royalton, VT, her mother Pauline Morrill ( Gene VanHouten) of Sharon, VT, a brother Neil Morrill (Margie) of Sharon, VT a sister Fayanne Morrill (Jeffrey Moulton) of Lebanon, NH, her father in law Gary Cross (Betty) of South Royalton, her mother in law Patricia Gallant of White River Junction, VT, her sister in law Marie Ostoyich (Tom) of Hannacroix, NY, her very special best friend Lisa Cilley of Tunbridge, VT and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, December 5, 2019 at 6-8pm at the Boardway and Cilley Funeral Home, 300 VT RTE 110, Chelsea, VT. A memorial funeral service will be held Friday, December 6, 2019 at 2pm at the United Church of South Royalton with Rev. Josh Moore officiating.
