WHITE RIVER JUNCTION, VT — Denzil Eugene Swift age 91, passed away at his home, surrounded by family on September 29, 2019 after a period of failing health. “Denny” was born July 11, 1928 at the Swift family farm in South Strafford, VT to Raymond and Viola (Sheldon) Swift. Denny attended High School at Thetford Academy. He worked at the Copper Mines in Thetford, Vermont, The Water Company in Hanover, NH, and retired as the Foreman for The Buildings and Grounds of Hanover, NH after 29 years of work.

Denny is survived by the love of his life, Sylvia DeGoosh Swift, with whom he celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary earlier this month. He is also survived by his three children, Raymond Swift (Dot), Karen Pelletier (Tom), Kathy Hemenway (Steve); 9 grandchildren;7 great grandchildren; his 2 half-sisters, Gloria and Grace; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Clyde, and sister, Winnibel.

Denny was an avid hunter and enjoyed his time with his son, nephew and grandsons at the hunting camp in Sharon and all of the surrounding woods to hunt for deer. He had amazing gardens and his lawn could be described as a golf course. Family was very important to him and whenever people left he would say “come again won’t you?” and “drive careful.”

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Bayada Hospice, P.O. Box 1590, Norwich, VT 05055-1590, who took such wonderful care of Denny during the past two weeks.

Calling hours will be held at Ricker Funeral home in Lebanon, NH on Thursday, October 3, 2019 from 6-8 pm with a funeral service on Friday, October 4th at 11am at the Greater Hartford United Church of Christ in Hartford Village, Vermont. Burial will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in South Strafford, with a reception at the Grange Hall in Norwich, Vermont immediately after.
