SHARON — Felicia Hammer set a new women’s 5K course record to highlight results from The Sprouty 5K/10K road race on Saturday.
Hammer, of Monroe, N.H., won the women’s 5K division in a time of 20 minutes, 26.6 seconds, with Sharon Academy freshman runner Charlotte Reimanis taking second in 23:09.1. Desmond Piccicuto, of Rochester, Vt., Remanis’ teammate on the TSA cross country team, won the men’s 5K division in 19:15.3.
The 10K races went to North Pomfret’s Hannah Taska (43:10.3) and Charlie Enscoe, of Burlington (36:16.5). Nearly 175 athletes competed in the race, which raises funds for Sharon Elementary School’s farm-to-school program.
MERIDEN — The Lightning Soccer Club’s U13 Fury girls soccer team improved to 4-0-0 on the fall season with a pair of victories over the weekend.
The Fury opened on Saturday with a 10-2 rout of the Candia Stingers. It took just 14 minutes for LSC to open a 4-1 lead, with Madeleine Allen scoring a team-best four goals. Audrey Rupp (three), Lauren Hatch (two) and Sylvie McClure (first of the season) accounted for the rest. AMelia Holthof, Campbell Madden and backup netminder Peyton Rutherford also had strong matches.
The Fury added a 6-1 road win over the Goffstown Grizzlies on Sunday. Hatch had a hat trick to go with two Bartlett goals and one from Allen, giving her strikes in all four Fury games. J.J. Masland had two assists, and Rosemary Candon, Eliza des Cognets, Hannah Gardner and goalkeeper Sadie Ross made significant contributions
TYNGSBOROUGH, Mass. — The LSC U11 Bolts put up a strong effort but came up on the wrong side of a 4-1 defeat to GPS Mass. Northern Elite Blue on Sunday.
Jack Richardson scored to forge a 1-1 tie and defenders Braeden Friedman, Henry Souza, Nate Holt and Andy Feng kept the Bolts in the contest. Elliot Morales, Nicholas Mirica, Rhys Windchester and Vitus Grathe all had scoring chances.
Wyatt Cassidy and Charlie Devlin split the goalkeeping work, with Devlin stopping a penalty kick in the second half.
MERIDEN — The LSC U14 Force dropped a 5-2 decision to Aztec Azzurri over the weekend.
Sydney McLaughlin netted LSC’s first goal on a feed from Sophie Longacre. Katie Pierson accounted for the other.
Sydney DeShane set up Pierson’s goal with strong work out of the midfield.
MERIDEN — The LSC U13 Comets dropped a narrow 4-3 contest to the NEFC North Shore Elite over the weekend.
Sam Peckinpaugh and Tanner Moulton dented the net to leave the Comets in a 2-2 halftime draw. Moulton converted a second-half penalty to complete the Comets’ scoring.
MERIDEN — The LSC U11 Hurricanes used a three-goal spurt to open the match as the foundation of a 4-2 win over Seacoast United MVSC last weekend.
Nate McFetridge, Yuvi Sathe and Liam Sullivan struck for a 3-0 lead in the first half that Seacoast whittled to 3-2. Colin McLaughlin struck in the second half to give LSC breathing room.
Gabriel del Pino, Matt Lepene, Nolan Bourne, Sawyer Hall, Tucker Green and Ben Campfield rotated on defense, giving goalkeepers Dino Gavetti and Sacha Palm room to secure the victory.
WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Upper Valley Aquatic Club will host a free September celebration on Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
This family-centered event is open to everyone. Visitors can enjoy face painting, a car and truck show, a scavenger hunt and a variety of other games. Adults will have opportunities to sample UVAC fitness classes, and Be Fit physical therapy will be on hand for injury screenings.

WELLS RIVER, Vt. — The Newbury Conservation Commission will hold a free fall foliage bike ride on the Cross Vermont Trail on Saturday.
This 22-year annual event begins at Kettle Pond in Groton State Park and follows the CVT along the Wells River to a conclusion at Blue Mountain Union High School. The ride covers about 20 miles of canopied former railroad bed. Sign-in and bike safety checks begin at 9:30 a.m., and the ride starts at 10 a.m. Expect it to take roughly two hours to complete.
There is no cost to participate, and while pre-registration is not required, advance notice is appreciated for planning purposes.

NEWBURY, Vt. — The Newbury Conservation Commission will hold its second Paddle the Border canoe and kayak trip of the year on Oct. 6.
The voyage, which takes 3½ to 4 hours to complete, begins at the Newbury boat launch by the Newbury-Haverhill bridge and concludes at the Bugbee landing in Bradford, Vt. Boats will launch between 10:30-11:30 a.m. Participants can leave their vehicles at the landing, where they’ll be shuttled to the launch site.

RANDOLPH — The Greater Hartford Hockey Open will celebrate its 20th edition of the annual fundraising golf tournament on Oct. 5 at Montague Golf Club.
The tournament helps fund the Hartford High boys and girls ice hockey programs. The 18-hole scramble tournament is open to golfers of all ages and abilities, with a foursome fee of $240 that includes green fees, carts, prizes and a post-tournament dinner.

WEST LEBANON — Campion Rink will start the winter skating season on Friday.
In the interim, the rink is busy accepting registrations for its upcoming programs, which will start shortly after the ice goes in. Programs will include the Campion Hockey League, the Gentlemens Hockey League, Coffee and Cocoa, Hockey 101, Intermediate Hockey and Freestyle, with more planned for the future.

WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — Dismas House, the transitional home for former prisoners returning to society, will hold a fundraising run, the Going the Dismas 5K, on Oct. 5.
The race begins and ends at the Dothan Brook School, with a start of 10 a.m. In addition to the run, the event will give participants a chance to meet the residents, staff, council member and volunteers behind Dismas House, which located in Hartford.
The route follows the bike path from DBS, heads into Wilder and turns around near Kilowatt Park before returning to the school. After the run is done, stick around for music, games, good and other fall-themed activities. Funds raised will go toward Dismas House operations.
The cost to race is $20. Online registration is available through www.runsignup.com until Oct. 4.
