LEBANON — Do you have a painting that you just haven’t clicked with? Or a set of watercolors collecting dust?
Consider bringing those items to AVA Gallery and Art Center starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, for an art swap. From 11 a.m.-5 p.m. people are welcome to pick up art supplies and artwork for free. Donations will also be accepted
“It can just be a great way to recycle art materials and artwork instead of having it end up in the trash,” said Heidi Reynolds, AVA’s exhibition manager. “It’s open to anyone and everyone. You don’t have to bring something to take something.”
Donations can only be dropped off on the day of sale, which takes place on the patio of the Bente Building and Kelsey Stone Carving Studio behind the building at 11 Bank St.
The swap was started last year by Reynolds’ predecessor, Mila Tinigin. It is an outgrowth of a desk where people leave supplies they are no longer using. If a community member takes something, they are asked to make a small donation to AVA.
“It was experimental and it went really, really well,” Reynolds said.”We decided to keep on doing it because there’s definitely a need in the community.”
Any art supplies dropped off must be nontoxic. Artwork can be framed or unframed. Reynolds said it is a good opportunity for people to try out a new form of art or to pick up projects for curious children. AVA staff will try to find a home for anything that is left over after the swap.
“It’s a way to bring people to AVA and hopefully they’ll come in and see the new exhibition as well,” Reynolds said.
