NORTH SYRACUSE, NY — Mildred (Sheldon) Guyette, 98, of Heins Avenue, died Wednesday, August 14, 2019 at the Elderwood Healthcare Center in Liverpool, NY.

She was born in South Hartford, NY on August 31, 1920 the daughter of Clifford and Huldah (Fraser) Sheldon. She graduated from Hartford, NY High School and then from LPN Nursing School in Albany, NY.

Mildred lived in Syracuse before moving permanently to Grantham, NH in 1980 and then after the death of her husband she moved back to North Syracuse. Their home in Grantham was erected as a shell and then she and her husband finished it themselves. Years ago she worked taking care of a woman and also worked at a knit shop.

She had been a member of The First Baptist Church of New London, NH, a member of the Prayer Shawl Group and was in charge of knitting for the church fairs for many years. She was an outstanding homemaker and a loving wife and mother. She was talented in many areas including crafts of all kinds, knitting, quilting and ceramics. Mildred enjoyed helping others and taught a knitting class. After returning to Syracuse, she volunteered at Meals on Wheels for several years.

In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Robert E. Guyette; her brother Gordon Sheldon (and his wife “Meg”); her sisters Carolyn (and her husband “Joe” Daly) and Janice (and her husband “Bill” Shea). She is survived by two daughters, Alice Tarnow of Harrisburg, PA and Ruth Baxter (Tom) of North Syracuse, NY; two grandchildren, Margaret Marie Tucker (Carl) and Robert John Baxter; great-granddaughter Michaela Tucker; three sisters, Christine Thompson of Cropseyville, NY, Margaret “Peggy” Pauquette (Ed) of Tampa, FL and Elinor Burch of S. Hartford, NY; nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family in Grantham Memorial Cemetery, Grantham, NH.
