ETNA, NH — Elaine Bent had a long adventurous life that sadly but peacefully ended in her home of 70 years on Friday, August 2, 2019. All her friends and family thank her son Tim Bent of Etna and Bayada Hospice, especially Lindsey Covell, for making it possible for Elaine to remain comfortably in her home until the end.

After raising Linda, Charles and Timothy, who were tragically predeceased by infant Michael and Sandy at age 18, she embarked on a career as one of the pioneers in online medical research at the Dana Medical Library of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical School. She was also active in civic affairs as a long-standing member of the Hanover Conservation Commission, constantly working for environmental conservation and rational development of the town. PFLAG was another recipient of her efforts.

After retiring she traveled around the country and internationally, visiting Japan, Romania, and the Galapagos Islands. Throughout her life she was an avid outdoor enthusiast, pursuing hiking, technical climbing, skiing, tennis, kayaking and many studies in nature.

As per her wishes there will be no funeral or memorial services. Anyone so wishing may donate to the Native Plant Trust in her memory, formerly the New England Wild Flower Society, where she was one of the first plant conservation volunteers.
