SAINT CLOUD, FL — On Friday, August 2, 2019, Richard Griggs Lamson (93) and the love of his life, Virginia Fellows Lamson (90), passed away. They were completely in love and devoted to each other and left the world only 30 minutes apart, showing how inseparable they truly were, and dying the way they lived, together always.
Richard was born in New London, New Hampshire. He served as radio mechanic for the US Air Corp in WWII, then worked for over 30 years as a Design Engineer for Jones and Lamson in Springfield, Vermont. Virginia was born in Cabot, Vermont. She was a beautician in Boston, Massachusetts and later focused on her family and volunteering with the First Congregational Church and Group 9. They met on February 9, 1955, fell quickly in love, and were married only 8 months later. This October they would have celebrated 64 years together. They spent their entire married lives in Springfield, Vermont raising their three children, Laura, Janet and Steve. The family spent countless summers with friends and family in New London, New Hampshire at a cottage Richard built.
Those that knew Richard and Virginia have numerous examples of how loving they were to each other; they could often be caught holding hands, looking into each other’s eyes, or reminiscing about their many memories together. Richard was very handy and could always be counted on for his sharp wit, love of music, western books and sweet tooth; whereas, Virginia loved teddy bears, telling stories, and couldn’t pass up a good sale. They enjoyed visitors; always welcoming people to stop by for a story, cup of coffee or a bite to eat, or to drop by the cottage for a swim, boat ride, or walk through ‘fairy land’. They always made people feel welcome and have many friends who considered them family.
Richard and Virginia were predeceased by their parents, siblings Don and Caroline, daughters Laura, and Janet, and their daughter-in-law Bonnie. They are survived by Richard’s sister Betty, their son Steve, 6 grandchildren, 4 great-granddaughters, and many relatives and close friends.
A celebration of their lives and love for each other will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2019 at 1:00pm at the First Congregational Church in Springfield VT, where stories can be shared, laughter heard, and sadness replaced with the knowledge that they are together forever.
