The Vermont Soccer Officials Association will hold a pair of training sessions in the Upper Valley this month in the hopes of drawing new people into officiating the game at the high school level.
Southern Vermont soccer officials assigner Gary Blodgett will lead sessions at the Maxfield Sports Complex in White River Junction on Aug. 14 at 4 p.m. and at White River Valley High School in South Royalton on Aug. 24 at 8:30 a.m. The training includes reviewing rules of the game, a test and a field practice. Follow-up support and mentorship is also provided.
The cost of either clinic is $75, which includes VSOA membership for one year, the training and insurance. Once completed, participants will be eligible to work Vermont high school varsity and subvarsity matches anywhere in the state.

WOODSTOCK โ Rosie Keith and Adeline Manning raced to four victories apiece for the Hanover-based Upper Valley Rapids swim team in a July 23 tri-meet with Rutland and Woodstock and the Woodstock Recreation Center pool.
Keith, 13, won the 100-meter individual medley, 50 freestyle, 50 backstroke and 100 butterly for girls ages 13-14. Manning, 10, grabbed her victories in the 100 back, 25 back, 100 fly and 25 breaststroke for girls ages 9-10.
Nate Holt, 9, had a hat trick of victories, taking the 25 free, 200 free and 50 free among boys ages 9-10. Brandy Lewis was a three-event winner, claiming the 50 free, 200 IM and 50 fly for girls ages 15-16. Ariel Fu, 8, won the 25 breast for girls ages 8 and under, and the girls 10-and-under team of Ingrid Groff, Charlotte Hourdequin, Adeline Manning and Ryan Reed won the 100 medley relay.
The first-year Rapids currently have 20 athletes qualified for the Vermont Swim Association, which will be held at the Upper Valley Aquatic Center this weekend.
NEWPORT โ The Tom and Judy Tuohy Memorial Scholarship Fund is seeking golfers for a fun fundraising day on the links at the 13th Hawaiian Shirt Open, scheduled for Aug. 18 atNewport Golf Club.
The scramble-format tournament heads out at 11 a.m., following a 9:30 a.m. registration and bloody mary hour. The tournament fee of $100 covers greens fees, power carts, a mid-round snack and a post-golf buffet.
The tourney raises money for the Touhy Fund, which has distributed scholarships to graduating seniors from Sunapee High School since 2003 and Newport High School since 2011.

FAIRLEE โ The Milldale Farm Center for Wellenss will hold its third Vermont Be True yoga festival this weekend.
Run by the nonprofit organization Vermont Be True, the festival โ scheduled for Friday through Sunday โ seeks to provide emotional, spiritual and physical growth and healing for all participants. Milldale Farm is located on Blood Brook Road, near Lake Fairlee.

HANOVER โ The Upper Valley Trails Alliance is gearing up for its annual Stoaked Trail Run on Saturday.
The 12.5-kilometer race takes place on the Oak Hill cross country ski trail network at the Storrs Pond Recreation Area. Pre-registration for the run is $15 for adults and $10 for youths ages 15-19 through the day of the race.
Same-day registration on site is also available for an additional $5.
