ROYALTON — Vermont State Police subdued a Fairlee man with a stun gun on Wednesday night while he was charging at troopers at the end of a car chase, according to a state police news release.

Mitchell Fifield, 32, faces charges of driving under the influence, gross negligent operation, speeding, unlawful mischief and resisting arrest, police said.

Officers attempted to stop Fifield on Wednesday night on Route 14 in Royalton after receiving a be-on-the-lookout order, according to reports. Fifield failed to stop for police, officials said, and led them on a chase to the Bethel state police barracks, hit a gate and “charged troopers with a weapon in hand,” the release said.

After being immobilized with the stun gun, Fifield was treated and evaluated at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, police said.

He was ordered to appear in Windsor Superior Court on Aug. 13.
