SHARON, VT — Sharon, Vermont lost a real character this week. On July 4th, 2019, Tom, 64, died suddenly in a tree cutting accident.

Nothing about Tom or his life was conventional. He didn’t have one career or a list of awards that defined him. He was a person of many interests, a renaissance man with a zest for life. A colorful inventor, an eccentric dreamer, a fixer, a man of the land, ardent Grateful Dead fan, and master storyteller. Perhaps his strongest trait was his passion for collecting things—- his eye could find value in just about anything.

He was a wonderfully loving person underneath all of his oddities. He was everywhere and always on the go. Any person who met him probably has a quirky exchange to remember. But, his warm heart and willingness to help folks will be his most enduring trait.

He was also an adoring father (to Julia, and to many animals through the years) and a loyal and generous friend to many. He leaves behind his daughter, Julia Eddy, partner of many years, Wendy Eddy, his brother, Jerry Ward and sister, Katie Keirle. He also leaves the house in Sharon left to him by his great aunt, Faith, his grandmother, Sidney, and mother, Elisabeth.

A celebration of his life and spirit is planned at Pine Hill Cemetery in Sharon on Saturday, July 13 at 2 PM, rain or shine. Anyone who knew Tom is invited. BYO beverage, chair, and umbrella (if needed). His spirit is already soaring to all the places he planned to see and change, but his ashes will remain in Sharon and the Chesapeake Bay where he grew up.
