WINDSOR — Police are asking for the public’s help in determining who abandoned a dog on Monday at Cumberland Farms in Windsor that had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.

Around 7:45 a.m. on Monday, an individual driving an older-style Jeep Liberty, possibly gold or green in color, pulled into the Route 5 store, let the dog jump out and then drove away, Windsor police said in news release on Tuesday.

Several people called police after realizing the dog, which is possibly a Border Collie/Great Pyrenees mix, was likely abandoned. Police subsequently took the dog to Lost My Way Animal Shelter in Claremont.

A veterinarian determined the dog was in “poor health” and had recently birthed a litter of puppies, the release states.

Windsor police are asking anyone with information about the dog’s owner or the vehicle to call 802-674-9042.
