NORTH HAVERHILL, NH — June Elizabeth (Gilbert) Klitgord, 97, formerly residing in Haverhill, NH and Lima, NY, died peacefully in the Grafton County Nursing Home on Sunday, June 23, 2019.
She was a loving wife, mother and dedicated citizen. Though out her 97 years, her tireless efforts to help her church and community demonstrated how each of us can make a difference.
June was born in Rochester, NY, on May 16, 1922, the daughter of Harold and Eliza May (Allatt) Gilbert. She attended Avon public schools and graduated in 1943 from Cornell University.
June was married on January 24, 1943, to John H. Klitgord, son of Marius and Helene (Dencker) Klitgord of Lima, NY
They resided in Lima for 35 years where John was a self-employed seedsman and where they raised three children.
In 1982 they moved to Haverhill, NH, where they lived together until John’s death in 1989. June remained in this house and community until she entered the Grafton County Nursing Home in 2013.
June was a member of the Lima & Haverhill Historical Societies and a member of the Lima Presbyterian Church and of the First Congregational Church of Haverhill.
She leaves a daughter, Susan Scott of Littleton, NH; two sons, Kim Klitgord of Houston, TX, and Steven Klitgord of Wayland, MA; six grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
A funeral service will be held at 11am on Saturday July 20th in the First Congregational Church of Haverhill followed by a coffee hour in the parish hall. Former pastor David Pruitt will officiate. June’s ashes will be placed in the Klitgord family plot in Lima’s Oak Ridge Cemetery at 11am on Wednesday August 7th.
