SOUTH POMFRET, VT — Edna T. Luce, 83, died at her home in South Pomfret on Saturday June 15, 2019.

Edna was born on May 15, 1936 inBridgewater Corners,Vermontthe daughter of GeorgePaul and Pearl Irene (Denton) Townsend.

Edna graduated from Woodstock High School in 1954. On November 26, 1955 she married her high school sweetheart, David Luce of South Pomfret.In addition to raising her family Edna was a Justice of the Peace, Notary Public, worked at the Sterling’s Drug Store and the Teago Store, and cleaned homes for a number of families. She also enjoyed making cakes for all types of celebrations including many wedding cakes.

Together David and Edna traveled the State of Vermont teaching fire safety to schoolchildren with the fire safety trailer. They also enjoyed square dancing with the Sugarhouse Swingers and snowmobiling with the Pomfret and Barnard snowmobile clubs.She was a long time member of Windsor County Farm Bureau. Along with other family members Edna helped start the Pomfret Fast Squad and supported the Teago Fire Department for many years.

Edna enjoyed bird watching and especially liked red cardinals. She also spent time tedding and raking hay on her Massey Ferguson tractor, watching baseball, making donuts, caring for Mia her cat, and most of all time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Edna is survived by her daughter Louise and her husband Jerry Blakeney, her son in law Jigger Barton, hergrandchildren; DanSchaefer, Lisa Gibbons, Ryan Blakeney and Loretta Blakeney,her4 great grandchildren;Alli, Haley, Shawn, and Boyd,her sister Alice and husband Bruce Pagliaand nieces, nephew and many cousins.In addition to her parents she is predeceased by her husband Davidand daughter Patricia Barton.

The family would like to thank the many caregivers who made it possible for Edna to remain in her home and be well cared for.

Visiting hours will be held onThursday evening June 20thfrom 6:00 to 8:00at the Cabot Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held onFriday morning June 21st at 11:00in the Bridgewater Congregational Church, burial will follow in the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, VTfollowed by a reception at the Bridgewater Grange.
