Here’s a look at some Upper Valley residents who competed in varsity collegiate sports this spring:

BASEBALL

Babson sophomore pitcher Jordy Allard (Woodstock/Hartford) helped the Beavers go 39-10, advance to the NCAA Division III World Series and win a game there. Allard was 8-0 with a 3.75 ERA after appearing 10 times, nine of them starts. … Bucknell was 14-33, winning its fewest games since 1994. Caleb Broughton (West Lebanon/Lebanon), a sophomore infielder, was fifth among Bison in batting average (.282) while starting 35 of the 38 games in which he appeared. He had 10 RBIs, stole four bases in eight attempts and posted an .895 fielding percentage. … Colby-Sawyer was 7-28 and is 52-120 during the last seven seasons. Freshman pitcher Derek Griffin (Lebanon) was 2-4 with a 4.89 ERA. He started four times in 14 appearances and produced two complete games, totaling 35 innings, striking out 29 batters and walking 13. … Sophomore pitcher Will Austin (Sunapee) was part of Plymouth State’s 14-23 campaign. He made 12 appearances totaling 20 innings and was 0-1 with an 11.25 ERA and 19 hits allowed. … Stevenson (Md.) University was 20-20 for a second consecutive season with sophomore outfielder Nate Perkins (West Lebanon/Lebanon) taking 49 at-bats in 30 games and producing a .184 average. … Lyndon State (22-21) received a .295 batting average and 19 RBIs from junior outfielder Codi Smith (Hartford) in 41 games. Smith also made a two-inning pitching appearance. … Henry Day (Canaan), a St. Lawrence sophomore utility player, appeared in five games and started one for the Saints (7-30). He had one hit in 11 at-bats. … New Hampshire Technical Institute was 8-26 with freshman infielder Kyle Fish (Newport) batting .270 in 30 games. He stole eight bases and had a .904 fielding percentage. … Sophomore infielder Coby Hussey (Claremont/Stevens) played at Becker (Mass.) College, which was 13-25. He batted .344 in 35 games and had 15 RBIs and an .870 fielding percentage. … Coby’s brother, UMass-Dartmouth senior pitcher Chase Hussey (Claremont/Stevens), started once in eight appearances. He was 0-1 with an .864 ERA in 8⅓ innings… Will Smith (Norwich/Hanover) batted .285 with 19 RBIs and a .988 fielding percentage and played in 38 games for Roanoke (Va.) College. The sophomore outfielder earned first team All-Old Dominion Athletic Conference honors and helped the Maroons go 21-18.

MEN’S LACROSSE

Junior attackman George Geraghty (Norwich/Hanover) played in four games and had a goal and an assist for St. Anselm (7-7). … St. Lawrence (13-4) enjoyed the services of sophomore midfielder Dan Robinson (Bridgewater/Woodstock), sophomore long-stick midfielder Conner Black (Woodstock) and senior defender Owen Manley (KUA). Robinson appeared in every game, Black in five and Manley started every game. … Logan Bateman (Claremont/Stevens) started every game as a sophomore defenseman for Regis (Mass.) College and was second on the team with 44 ground balls. The Pride was 3-8. … Senior attackman Eric Megnia (KUA) started every game and was the leading scorer for Skidmore (4-11) with 28 goals and seven assists. … Nazareth (N.Y.) College (7-11) enjoyed the services of junior long-stick midfielder Tristan Gosselin (Hanover), who posted eight goals and four assists while playing every game and starting 15 of them. He was second on the team in caused turnovers (15) and ground balls (49). … Johnson State (0-10) featured junior defender Austin Walters (Grantham/Lebanon) and sophomore midfielder Dylan Griffin (Bradford/Oxbow), who endured the program’s third consecutive winless season. Walters started two of the three games in which he played, and Griffin started all nine contests in which he appeared and had a goal and three assists. The Badgers have lost 32 consecutive games and are 36-128 during the last 15 seasons. … Australian native Kenny Speak (KUA) was a senior attackman at Endicott (Mass.) College, for which he appeared in 11 games, scoring four goals and adding two assists. The Gulls were 11-8. … Castleton (5-12) featured sophomore long-stick midfielder Luc Issa (Woodstock) and freshman midfielder Griffin Van Niel (Woodstock). Issa started every game and posted four goals and three assists, and Van Niel appeared in six contests. … Senior midfielder Ben Hartig-Orr (Reading/Woodstock), a goaltender in high school, was Emmanuel (Mass.) College’s second-leading scorer with 39 goals and 12 assists. The Saints were 3-14. … Junior defender Cole Dalton (Woodstock) played in 11 games for Norwich (13-5), which won the program’s second Great Northeast Athletic Conference title and reached the NCAA Division III tournament… Justin Norris (New London), a sophomore transfer from Assumption (Mass.) College, appeared in every game as a midfielder for Keene State (11-6). He posted six goals and two assists… Freshman defensive midfielder Graham Penfield (Sharon/Hanover) played in 15 games for Trinity (Conn.) College. The Bantams were 8-8 and Penfield scooped up 12 ground balls… Roger Williams (R.I.) was 12-7 with freshman defenseman Mike Mackall (Norwich/Hanover) appearing in one game… Freshman midfielder Joe Citera (KUA) had two goals and an assist in 18 games for the College of Wooster (Ohio). The Fighting Scots were 7-11… Andrew Robertello (KUA) was a freshman midfielder at Catholic (D.C.) University. He had two goals in 14 games for the Cardinals (8-8)… Kenyon (Ohio) College was 11-6 with sophomore sophomore Will Harrigan (KUA) starting six of the 17 games in which he played and scoring twice.

WOMEN’S LACROSSE

Freshman midfielder Molly Seibel (Hanover) had three goals while playing in seven games for Tufts (Mass.) University. The Jumbos (19-3) advanced to the NCAA Division III semifinals. … Middlebury (Vt.) College (22-1) won the NCAA Division III title with sophomore midfielder Madeline Lyons (Norwich/Hanover) appearing in 10 games. The Panthers beat Wesleyan (Conn.) College — and sophomore Johanna Copeland (Hanover) — in the semifinals. The Cardinals (17-4) received 29 goals and three assists from the attacker, who appeared in every game and started 15 times. … Colby-Sawyer was 10-7 with sophomore attacker Grace Vosburgh (Woodstock) starting 12 of the 16 contests in which she played, scoring 10 goals and adding five assists. … Sophomore midfielder Amelia Lubrano (Hanover) played in 16 games and scored once for Colby (9-7). … Senior midfielder Sophia Lubrano (Hanover) and junior defender Elle Brine (Lebanon) helped Bowdoin go 10-8. Lubrano had five goals and nine assists while playing in 18 games and starting one. Brine played in 10 games. … Junior midfielder Brenna Peterson (Lebanon) started every game for Gordon (Mass.) College. The Fighting Scots were 4-13. … Junior midfielder Samantha Tullar (Randolph Center/Randolph) started all four games she played in for the University of the Cumberlands (Ky.). The 2018 NAIA Player of the Year had 21 goals, six assists and 20 draw controls for the Patriots (16-4), who lost in the national semifinals for a second consecutive year and in just their fourth varsity season. Tullar scored her 300th career point this season. … Senior defender Joanna Schafer (Meriden/KUA) started every game for Bates (8-8) for a second consecutive season. … Junior defender Kelly Brigham (Norwich/Hanover) started nine of the 14 games in which she appeared for Connecticut College (4-11). … Kyra Taylor (Meriden/Lebanon) was a senior defender for the University of New England (10-8). She started all 17 games in which she played and had one goal and three assists. … Rhode Island College was 6-8 with freshman attacker Morgan Pero (White River Junction/Hartford) starting every game and producing 18 goals and eight assists for the Anchorwomen. … Freshman midfielder Michaela Ricker (White River Junction/Hartford) appeared in 15 games for the University of Rochester (N.Y.). The Yellowjackets were 5-10. … Norwich went 7-10 with freshman defender Brittney Poljacik (Woodstock) starting every game, scoring 14 goals and adding an assist… Freshman attacker Josie Hastings (West Lebanon/Lebanon) started 13 of the 14 games in which she played for Rivier University, scoring twice. The Raiders were 3-12… Freshman attacker Maisie O’Shea (KUA) started 12 of the 22 games in which she played, posting 14 goals and seven assists. The Diplomats (17-5) won the Centennial Conference championship before losing in the NCAA Division III quarterfinals… William Smith (N.Y.) College (17-3) won the Liberty League and posted the second-most victories in program history. Freshman midfielder Kelsie Worth (KUA) started five of the 13 games in which she played and had an assist… Dickinson (Pa.) College was 11-6 with freshman midfielder Maddy Gesner (KUA) starting one of seven games in which she saw action and contributing three goals and an assist.

SOFTBALL

The roster at Johnson State (3-25) included junior infielder Lindsey LaPerle (Bethel/Whitcomb) and freshman infielder Jordan Galluzzo (Tunbridge/Sharon Academy). LaPerle played in every game and led it in at-bats with 67. Her batting average was .164 and her 11 hits was tied for third on the team. Galluzzo appeared in 13 games for the Badgers, who lost 19 of their games in five innings. … Mary Bourgois (Bradford/Oxbow), a sophomore pitcher for Johnson and Wales (R.I.) College, made 13 appearances and started three times. She was 3-3 with a 5.35 ERA and allowed 39 hits in 30⅓ innings. Bourgois struck out 17 batters and walked 14.

MEN’S TRACK

Colby-Sawyer junior Liam Fleming (Orford/Rivendell) posted a pair of personal bests this spring. He ran 15:55.19 in the 5,000 meters and 34:09.68 in the 10,000 meters. Teammate and classmate Ben Jones (Enfield/Mascoma) put up three personal bests. He ran 15:57.34 in the 5,000, 34:38.48 in the 10,000 and 2:12.50 in the 800. … Senior Cole Chapman (Post Mills/Thetford) set a personal best with a triple-jump leap of 23 feet, 9.75 inches in early May, good for third in the Northeast-10 Conference championships, which the Owls won. He cleared 22-5.75 at the New England Championships, where the team was also victorious. … Castleton senior Clayton Bailey (North Hartland/Hartford) threw the javelin 142 feet, 4 inches at the New England Alliance Championships, good for 11th place. The Spartans finished 13th out of as many teams. … Another Castleton senior, Tayler Larmie (Wilder/Hartford) threw the hammer 152 feet, 3 inches at the same meet and finished sixth out of 21 competitors. … Ben Chaimberg (Hanover) was a University of Chicago senior who ran 50.91 in the 400 and 3:16.70 as part of a 4×400 relay team in his last competition of the spring. He was 12th out of 21 runners in the first event and his quartet was fifth out of nine teams in the second event… Freshman Connor Lambert (South Royalton) was part of St. Lawrence’s fifth-place finish at the eight-team Liberty League championship. He won the decathlon, placing first in the 400 (52.28) and the discus (105 feet, 4 inches) during that competition… North Carolina-Wilmington was third out of as many teams at the Colonial Athletic Association championship. Freshman Owen Pelletier (Orford/Rivendell) was third in the long jump (22 feet, 11.25 inches) and sixth in the triple jump (44 feet, 11.75 inches) and the high jump (5 feet, 11.5 inches).

WOMEN’S TRACK

Mariah Ramos (Lebanon) competed in javelin, discus and shot put as a senior for Johnson State and set personal bests in each event. They were 79 feet, 3 inches in the javelin, 83 feet, 5 inches in the discus and 28 feet, 9.25 inches in the shot put. … Kayla Gould (Orford/Thetford Academy), a Plymouth State senior pole vaulter, tied her personal best by clearing 8 feet, 8.25 inches at the Tufts Sunshine Classic in mid-April. … Cornell was third in the eight-team Ivy League Championships with sophomore Corinne Kennedy (Lebanon) finishing seventh out of eight runners in the 400 hurdles in 101.23 seconds. … Husson (Maine) College senior Jessica Dessert (Lebanon) set two personal bests this spring. She ran the 100 hurdles in 19.7 seconds and the 400 in 1:06.85… Hannah Giesing (Oxbow), a Colby-Sawyer freshman, ran once during the spring, posting 1:04.23 in the 400 and 4:22.96 as part of a Chargers’ 4×400 relay team… UMass-Lowell freshman Izzy Giesing (Bradford/Oxbow) helped the River Hawks finish second out of nine teams at the America East Conference championship. She was part of a second-place 4×800 relay team (9:04.38) and was third in the 800 (2:13.08) and fifth in t he 800 (2:11.24)… Freshman Meagan Balch (Thetford/Thetford Academy) was part of Denison (Ohio) University’s seventh-place finish at the eight-team North Coast Athletic Conference championship. She was 11th out of 13 runners in the 10,000 (41:59.37) and 23rd out of as many competitors in the 5,000 (19:52.93)… Franklin Pierce senior CeCe Telfer (Lebanon) posted a personal-best 57.53 seconds to win the NCAA Division II title in the 400 hurdles. The Ravens were seventh out of 12 teams at the Northeast 10 Conference championship, Telfer winning the 100 hurdles (13.41), the 400 (54.41) and the 400 hurdles (1:03.35). Franklin Pierce’s  Katey Comstock (Hartland/Windsor) was third out of 19 competitors in the discus at 127 feet, 3 inches… Rensselaer (N.Y.) Polytechnic Institute was third out of seven teams at the Liberty League championship. Freshman Ileana Sirois (Hartland/Hartford) competed in four events, her best finish a fourth place showing in the long jump (17 feet, 4.25 inches).

OTHER SPORTS

Ben Lynch (Lyme/Hanover), a senior co-captain for the Wesleyan crew team, rowed in the sixth seat for the first varsity boat. The Cardinals were seventh at the National Invitational Rowing Championships in 6:06.67. … Junior Emily Winslow (Etna/Hanover) w as part of the University of Rhode Island crew team’s varsity eight placing 21st in its flight at the NCAA championships. URI also finished 21st overall at the event. … The Middlebury men’s golf team finished third out of four teams at the spring  NESCAC tournament. Freshman Phin Choukas (Hanover) was ninth among individual players by shooting a 75. … St. Lawrence tennis senior Carly Jefferson (Sunapee/KUA) was 8-6 in singles and 8-3 in doubles. The Saints were 9-8. … Cornell sophomore cox Hannah Marks (Hanover) competed with the Big Red’s second varsity eight. That boat was sixth among its peers at the Ivy Championships and the program finished seventh in the eight-team event. … Colby-Sawyer junior Maggie Kinder (Woodsville) was fourth in novice flat and second in intermedia te fences during an equestrian show at Middlebury in March.
