CLAREMONT — The SAU 6 School Board agreed to pay former interim superintendent Keith Pfeifer $11,761 in severance through May 13 in the wake of his resignation in late March.

The amount was defined as his “normal salary,” for the period following Pfeifer’s resignation on March 28, according to the “separation agreement and release,” first posted on news blog the Sullivan Report.

Pfeifer, hired in August, was to have worked for the district to June 30 but was placed on administrative leave following an incident at the SAU office on Feb. 13 that required a police response. Details of what happened were never made public but a police report indicated it involved Pfeifer, who was asked to leave the premises that day. He never returned. There was no criminal investigation into the matter.

The separation agreement also states it is a “compromise” for any claims Pfeifer might have and further states it is “not to be construed as an admission of wrongdoing by the superintendent.” The district did not pay Pfeifer’s health insurance or other benefits after March 31.

At the time of his resignation, SAU 6 officials would not say whether a financial agreement was reached that paid Pfeifer beyond his resignation date.

Cory LeClair, who will become the new superintendent for the Plainfield and Cornish school districts, has been the acting superintendent since Pfeifer left.

Mike Tempesta of Worcester, Mass., will officially start as the SAU 6 superintendent serving Claremont and Unity on July 1.
