RINGOES, N.J. — The Dartmouth College women’s golf team enjoyed its finest finish ever at the Ivy League Championship this weekend, placing second with a 907 (plus 43), just six strokes behind champion, Harvard, during the three-round tilt at the 6,042-yard, par-72 The Ridge at Back Brook that finished on Sunday.

Big Green freshman Kaitlyn Lees claimed third overall with a 5-over 221, three strokes behind medalist Elizabeth Wang, from Harvard. Lees was also one of the most consistent golfer in the field, recording 43 pars in her 54 holes. She entered the final round in second place overall, one stroke behind another freshman, Columbia’s Jennifer Wang. She carded 1-over 73 in the final round and a 74-74-73—221 for the tournament.

Jennifer Wang finished the tournament with a one-stroke lead on Lees for second place. Harvard’s Elizabeth Wang won the individual title with a 218.

Dartmouth sophomore Maddie Nelson carded a 228 to tie her for eighth, Moon Cheong finished 13th with a 230 and Kristen Chen placed 24th with a 236. It was the best three-round score ever for the Big Green at the Ivy League Championship; Dartmouth finished third four times in its history, the last coming in 2004. It finished fifth overall last spring.

ITHACA, N.Y. — Heather Turner earned her second win in the circle in as many days as the Big Green used a four-run fourth inning to improve to 8-24 overall.

McKenna Gray led the offense with three hits, two RBIs and a home run in the seventh inning for Dartmouth (5-10 in conference). Micah Schroder added two hits and two RBIs. Turner gave up three runs on eight hits, two walks and struck out two in 6⅔ innings. Dartmouth travels to Boston University on Tuesday.

 

Men’s TennisCornell 4, Dartmouth 3

HANOVER — The Big Green dropped four of its six singles matches to fall to 14-8 overall and 3-3 in Ivy League play. 

“Cornell fought hard in a very close match,” said Dartmouth head coach Chris Drake. “We still have a lot to play for next week with a shot at the NCAA Tournament if we win.”

Dartmouth got wins at No. 1 doubles, 6-2 and No. 3 doubles, 7-5, before heading into singles matches. Dan Martin gave the Big Green a win at No. 2 singles, 7-6, 3-6, 6-3, and Sid Chari picked up a victory at No. 5 singles, 6-2, 7-6. Dartmouth hosts Harvard on Saturday for its last regular season match of the season.

ITHACA, N.Y. — The Big Green earned its first conference win of the season in its season finale against the Big Red at the Reis Tennis Center.

Dartmouth (4-17 overall, 1-6 conference) got wins at No. 1 doubles, 6-2, No. 3 doubles, 6-1, and swept No. 1 singles, No. 4 singles and No. 6 singles. Junior Chuyang Guan clinched the win with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles.
