SPRINGFIELD, Vt. — The occupant of a house on Bacon Street was taken to the hospital after a second-alarm fire damaged much of his home late Monday night, Springfield fire authorities said.
Firefighters found flames “venting through the windows on the first floor” when they arrived at the scene at 11 Bacon St. shortly before 11 p.m.
The owner, Daniel Tarajkowski, had gotten out of the home but was injured and was taken by private vehicle to Springfield Hospital, according to a Springfield Fire Department news release. His condition was not immediately known, authorities said.
Fire crews cleared the scene at 1:45 a.m. Deputy Fire Chief Scott Richardson said the building “is very heavily damaged” and not habitable. The cause of the fire is under investigation but appears accidental, he said.
