WEST LEBANON, NH — John Charles Meyer, born February 12, 1923 in Brooklyn, New York, passed away peacefully, February 9th, 2019, three days shy of his 96th birthday.
He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Marjorie “Billie” and their 4 Children, Lynne, Paul, Chris and Lisa. Additionally, he had 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Having been born in the NYC area, he lived and worked in that area until 1979 when he accepted a transfer to NJ Machine of NH. He resided in West Lebanon, NH.
He served in the 84th infantry during World War II, notably during the Battle of the Bulge achieving the battlefield rank of Staff Sargent. He was a decorated soldier having received a Bronze Star and a Purple Heart for wounds received during that battle. In addition to his war service he was active in American Legion Post 26 in White River Junction and was also the Post Commander serving 2 terms. Most recently he was a member of Post 22 in Lebanon, NH.
Besides the love that he shared for his family and friends, his next love was the Boston Red Sox and the Patriots. No talking during game time, please.John was a very affable man with many friends, spanning much of the United States. He was an avid golfer, playing regularly with his fellow ROMEOS. Christmas time was always a notable time of year celebrated with family. A huge and beautifully decorated fresh fir tree was the highlight of the holiday season. Growing up, wonderful family vacations were spent at the Jersey Shore at Long Beach Island.
Many thanks to his care givers, Bayada Hospice and VA Home Health Department for their wonderful care during his declining years. Our memories will be cherished and his spirit lives on with us.
