Lebanon — Police evacuated several homes in the area of Bank Street Extension on Sunday after authorities responded to a report of a despondent man inside a home on that street around 8 p.m.

Several household members exited the residence, while the 31-year-old man remained inside. He had access to a firearm, so “out of an abundance of caution,” police evacuated the homes and asked other residents to shelter in place, according to a news release from Lebanon police.

About an hour later, the man left the residence and was taken into protective custody without incident. He was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center for evaluation, the release states.

He was likely suffering a mental health crisis, Lebanon police Deputy Chief Phil Roberts said.

No one was injured and no charges are expected.
