LEBANON, NH — Darrell H. Ingalls, 80, a lifelong area resident, passed away Monday January 14, 2019 after a valiant battle with cancer.
Darrell was born February 13, 1938 to the late Hazen & Ruth (Cutler) Ingalls.
He attended schools in Lebanon and later continued his education at Lebanon College.
In 1955 he married Edith Miller, making their home in Lebanon where they raised their two children. For many years Darrell worked as a Chef at various Upper Valley hotels, inns, and catering events. He later worked at NAPA and Sanel Auto Parts where he subsequently retired in 2001, to become a full-time care-giver to his wife. Darrell proved to be a kind, self-sacrificing, patient, care-giver which allowed Edith to remain at home until her death in 2004. In 2012 he married Lora Palmer Stone. They enjoyed many mutual interests, one of which was their daily lunches at the Upper Valley Senior Citizen Center, where they originally met and enjoyed time spent with friends.
Darrell enjoyed being outdoors, whether working around the house, going for long walks, or hunting and fishing with his son. He was a quiet man filled with kindness, strength, and a hidden sense of humor. He was an avid reader who was well versed in many areas and was looked to by his family for his guiding wisdom and advise. He was a member of the Elks BPOE Order #2099. Darrell was a large supporter and life-time member of the NRA. He was also a member of the Upper Valley Romeo (Retired Old Men Eating Out) Group.
Darrell was predeceased by his son Daniel A. Ingalls in 2014. Two brothers Durwood and Donald, and three sisters Marilyn Ingalls, Priscilla Findlay and Bernice Hewitt.
He is survived by his wife Lora of Lebanon, daughter Wendy Ingalls of W. Lebanon, daughter-in-law Marcia Tolbert-Ingalls of Lebanon. Grandson Daniel C. Ingalls of Harrisburg, PA, granddaughter Arin Chiasson (Jamie) and great-grandson Sy Chiasson, all of Grantham.
As described by his Grandchildren: “A man to be admired; a true gentlemen. A gentle soul who gave lessons, laughs, and memories. Full of unwavering support and love. Hoping to be half the person and mentor he was. The best Grandfather anyone could have, who we will love and carry in our hearts forever. Be at peace Grampa.”
