Claremont — Fired City Manager Ryan McNutt failed to meet the 10-day deadline to file an appeal of his termination.

McNutt was fired in a 7-2 vote by the council on Jan. 2, and when contacted later that evening, said he planned to appeal and have it heard in public.

Mayor Charlene Lovett said on Monday she consulted with legal counsel who told her the 10 day appeal period includes weekends, which means the appeal would have to have been filed by Jan. 12.

Lovett said she has not spoken to McNutt since the council fired him nor has she heard anything about his appeal. A message left for McNutt on Monday night was not returned.

McNutt was hired in February 2017 from Lancaster, Mass., where he was town administrator.

In a resolution passed by the council on Jan. 2, several reasons were listed for McNutt’s dismissal, including failure to properly communicate with the council and public and keep the council informed on matters affecting the city or those that could be a concern to the public.

McNutt was paid six months’ salary, which was stipulated in his contract.
