TUNBRIDGE, VT — Mertie (Angell) Clark, 90, the wife of the late Roger Clark, passed away at Evergreen Health Care Center in Stafford, CT on Monday, December 10, 2018. Born in Randolph, VT, the daughter of the late Dr. E. Olin and Helen Angell, she grew up in Millbury, Mass. She graduated from Simmons College in Boston, married Roger and they settled and raised their family in Vernon until his retirement in 1986. They then moved to Tunbridge, Vermont to enjoy their retirement years. Mertie was a devoted mother and grandmother, always finding the time for her grandchildren’s extracurricular and sporting activities. Caring for her family brought her great joy, as well as being an avid quilter, baker, reader and seamstress. She was a longtime member of the First Congregational Church of Vernon, where she served as a deacon and was very active in the Women’s Fellowship. More recently she was a member of the Tunbridge Church.

Mertie is survived by her four children, Roger and his wife Linda of Tunbridge, VT., Brian of Tunbridge, VT., Peter and his wife Susan, of Myrtle Beach, SC and Carol Slicer and her husband Carl of Ellington. She loved her six grandchildren dearly. Jared, Liz, Scott, Tom, Andrew and Nate were the light of her life, and we know she’ll be watching from above as her brand new great grandbabies grow and flourish. Mertie is also survived by her twin brother, Byron Angell and his wife Bunchie (Olive), of Tunbridge, VT. She was predeceased by her brothers Frank, Philip and Wardner Angell. She also leaves behind two other sisters in law and numerous nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 1pm, on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at the First Congregational Church of Vernon, 695 Hartford Turnpike, Vernon, CT. Burial will follow in the spring at a later date in Tunbridge. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the charity of your choice.
