It is the first time the health system has targeted veterans in this way, Sarah Currier, D-H’s workforce development director, said in a Tuesday phone interview.
“I think that at our very core we are a mission-driven place,” Currier said.
Having a central mission and working as a team to accomplish a goal are two things that are often appealing to veterans, Currier said.
The recruitment events will take place as the hospital system seeks to fill more than 700 positions across departments, including clinical roles, as well as jobs behind the scenes such as those in waste management, food service and clerical work.
The afternoon event for veterans, reservists and military spouses is scheduled to take place from noon to 5 p.m. It will include lunch and a behind-the-scenes tour.
The evening career expo for the general public is set to be held in auditoriums E and F from 5-8 p.m. That event also will be hands on, giving attendees a chance to witness how pharmacists compound medications and see the models that medical assistants use in their training, for example, Currier said.
She said she hopes the experience will be engaging like a “trip through the Montshire” Museum and that it will “take some of that intimidation factor out” of applying for a job.
