LEBANON, NH — Glenn Eric Smith of Lebanon, New Hampshire died November 22, 2018 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Memorial Hospital. He was born in Orford, New Hampshire on June 16, 1930 to Betty (King) Batchelder and Hazen Smith.

After proudly serving in the United States Army and being honorably discharged, he began a career in the wholesale grocery industry. In 1974, after 22 years of hard work and professional growth, he put what he learned to work for himself and opened, The Farmers Market, Inc, a retail/wholesale produce business, on Mechanic Street in Lebanon. Up through 1987, Glenn enjoyed serving a faithful retail community along with restaurants, hotels, hospitals, and many other small businesses throughout the Upper Valley. In 1989, Glenn put his entrepreneurial spirit back to work by opening The All Seasons Party Center in Lebanon, where he finished his career, retiring in 2001. Glenn enjoyed his time as a local entrepreneur and was grateful for the support, friendships, and interaction with the community in which he spent his entire adult life.

Throughout his life Glenn enjoyed activities which included playing golf, fishing, hunting, working around his home and gardening. What really brought him joy was spending time with the people which he shared these activities. His greatest love was to spend time with his three children and nine grandchildren.

Surviving relatives are his wife of 53 years, Ann Smith (Provencal), his daughters Katherine Smith Adams of Concord, NH, Alicia Hird and her husband Andy of Northfield, VT and son Andrew Smith and his wife Kristine Chapman Smith of Sherwood Forest, Maryland. Other survivors include two sisters, Lorraine Howland, Virginia Crowe, and three brothers, Russell, Hazen and Gene Smith. He also leaves behind nine wonderful grandchildren, Brady, Aran, and Bryce Hird; Matthew, Joshua, and Lexi Adams; Andrew, Will, and Charlie Smith, all of which will miss their beloved “Pop-Pops.”

A private family service will be held at Ricker Funeral Home in Lebanon with burial and military funeral honors at the Valley Cemetery.

The Smith family wishes to extend their deepest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and support staff at DHMC that helped make Glenn’s final days as comfortable as possible.
