ORMOND BEACH, FL — Richard J. Avery Sr. of Ormond Beach Florida past away peacefully in his sleep on November 19, 2018. He was born on September 1, 1943 in Sarasota Florida to (Willard) Skip & Margaret (Long) Avery. He grew up at Baker’s Crossing in Lebanon.

Richard attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Lebanon High School in 1961. He married Janet E. (Gagner) Avery on September 1, 1962 and they celebrated their 50 year anniversary with their children, grandchildren and many of their wedding party in 2012. In the fall of 2014, they retired to Ormond Beach FL from Cornish Flat NH. He is pre-deceased by his wife Janet on December 31st, 2016 and his brother James W. Avery on March 25, 2014. Dick had a long trucking career beginning by delivering milk in 1962 he moved onto working for Gomez Trucking in Lebanon, Dailey’s in Carlise PA, and Decato Brothers for over 25 years. When he became a diabetic, he transferred to dispatching for Decato Brothers. He later moved to Daniel’s Transportation and ending his career with Bellevance Trucking in Barre Vt. He didn’t stay “retired” long, he began working for Golden Cross Ambulance driving the Wheelchair Van. Once they moved to Florida he began working for Daytona Speedway where he worked special events, his favorite being the NASCAR races as he was a life-long fan. Dick was an avid fly-fisherman, and he enjoyed making flies for his annual Maine & NH fishing trips with good friends. He was a longtime board member of Trout Unlimited. As well as a lifetime member of the Elks BPOE. In the winter Dick enjoyed being a member of the National Ski Patrol at Whaleback. Dick was best known in Cornish for his many years of service to the Boy Scouts of America. He was recognized by the Daniel Webster Council with the District award of Merit and the Silver Beaver which is the highest award the council can bestow on a volunteer. He was a Woodbadge bead holder and served on many Woodbadge staffs. He was a vigil member of the Order of the Arrow and volunteered at many lodge section and national events. He was also on Staff for National Jamborees, National Order of Arrow conferences and even served as a faculty member at Philmont Scout Ranch.

He leaves behind his children, Lori Avery and her partner Jay Fountain of Grantham NH, Richard Avery Jr and his wife Kerry of Plymouth MN, Barbara LaBounty & her husband Troy of Port St. Lucie, FL. His grandchildren, whom he loved very much, Ryan Avery Follensbee & his wife Maryam, Annika and Chase Avery and Ariana LaBounty. He also leaves behind his former son-in- law, Kevin Follensbee of Orford, NH. A celebration of life will be held in the summer of 2019. Ricker Funeral Home will be in charge of arrangements.
