West Lebanon
One closely watched race involved a challenge to Sheriff Doug Dutile, the 61-year-old Republican from Haverhill who has held the post for 14 years.
North Haverhill resident Jeff Stiegler, the police chief in Bradford, Vt., racked up big margins in the heavily Democratic communities of Lebanon and Hanover, winning the latter town 4,578-1,117.
But with results from the northern part of the county, which is more heavily Republican, not yet finalized, the outcome was not available at deadline.
Similarly, Grafton County Register of Deeds Kelly Monahan was hoping to fend off a challenge from Littleton-area Republican Brad Bailey. Monahan won Lebanon, 4,240-1,553, thanks to a strong Democratic turnout there, but the outcome is still uncertain.
And in the race for the District One for the Executive Council, which represents all of the North Country and most of the Upper Valley, Hanover Democrat Mike Cryans was leading Republican incumbent Joe Kenney, 52.7 percent to 45 percent, with about 59 percent of towns reporting. Newport Libertarian Tobin Menard had 2.2 percent of the vote.
