Alumnus Donates $10 MillionFor Dartmouth’s Thayer Expansion

Hanover — The co-founder of a private equity firm and his wife have donated $10 million to Dartmouth College’s capital campaign, directing the money toward the planned $200 million expansion of the Thayer School of Engineering.

Dartmouth President Phil Hanlon announced the gift from Scott and Lisa Stuart at an alumni event last week in Stamford, Conn., according to Dartmouth’s website.

Scott Stuart, who majored in English and graduated from Dartmouth in 1981 before getting an MBA at Stanford, previously worked as a partner at Kohlberg Kravis Roberts & Co. He co-founded Greenwich, Conn.-based Sageview Capital in 2005.

Dartmouth said it has now raised $136 million toward the $200 million building in the West End of campus, which is to include Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth’s Department of Computer Science, the ​​​​Magnuson Family Center for Entrepreneurship and Dartmouth’s electron microscopy facility.

The Stuarts — parents of four children, two of whom have attended Dartmouth — also serve on the executive committee on Dartmouth’s “Call to Lead” fundraising drive, the $3 billion campaign announced by Hanlon this spring.

Hannaford Recalls Frozen PizzasOver Contamination Concern

West Lebanon — Hannaford is recalling two kinds of Taste of Inspirations-brand frozen pizza because an ingredient may have bacterial contamination.

The pizzas, Taste of Inspirations South of the Border Pizza and Taste of Inspirations Asian Pizza, both with a best-by date of March 19, 2019, are being recalled because of potential risk, according to a Hannaford recall advisory issued on Monday. No related illnesses have been reported.

Customers who have purchased these products can return them or a proof of purchase for a full refund.

Debate of Legislative CandidatesIn Windsor-Orange 1 Rescheduled

South Royalton — A debate that was to be held on Monday night between state Rep. David Ainsworth, R-Royalton, and Tunbridge Selectman John O’Brien, his Democratic challenger, was rescheduled.

The two candidates in the Windsor-Orange 1 race will now meet next Monday at White River Valley High School in South Royalton. The doors to the gym open at 6 p.m., and the debate will start at 6:30 p.m.

The district represents Tunbridge and Royalton in the Vermont House.

Vermont Country Store Warehouse Fire Under Investigation

Clarendon, Vt. — Fire investigators have returned to the site of a Vermont Country Store warehouse to try and determine what sparked a massive blaze there over the weekend.

Assistant Fire Marshal Matthew Jakubowski said there was about $2 million worth of products in the warehouse in Clarendon. The fire broke out on Saturday night. Jakubowski says it was hard for firefighters to get to the fire, and they had to use an excavator to knock holes into the building.

He says the site will likely emit smoke all week.

N.H. Man Killed, Girlfriend Critically Injured in Shooting

Wolfeboro, n.h. — New Hampshire authorities say the shooting death of a Wolfeboro man has been deemed a homicide.

Police responding to a 911 call on Sunday night found two adult residents at their home with gunshot wounds. Thirty-six-year-old Kris Dube died at the scene. His girlfriend, 36-year-old Kathleen Moran, was hospitalized on Monday in critical condition.

Authorities haven’t said who did the shooting.

N.H. to Get Nearly $1.9 Million For Dental Programs

Concord — A nearly $1.9 million federal grant is going to help New Hampshire elementary school-based dental programs and provide education on fluoridation and better monitoring of women’s dental health during pregnancy.

The state Department of Health and Human Services announced the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention grant on Monday.

The grant will provide a survey of third-graders’ oral health and provide services to more students in elementary and middle school-based programs that have a higher percentage of untreated decay.
