Windsor — A woman was taken to the hospital with serious injuries on Tuesday after she was struck by a car while walking to check her mailbox outside her home on Route 5, fire and rescue officials said.

The road was closed from about 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. while authorities investigated the incident just south of Harpoon Brewery.

Windsor Fire Chief Kevin McAllister said the woman was transported to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center.

The motorist, who was driving a red sedan, was taken to Mt. Ascutney Hospital for evaluation, McAllister said.

Neither woman had been publicly identified on Tuesday.
