Games will be played at the Maxfield Sports Complex from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. both days. The team fee is $160, and all proceeds will go toward the department for use in school sports registration, equipment purchase and summer program registration.
A concession stand will be on hand at the tournament, which will also include a 50-50 raffle and merchandise sales. Tournament champion T-shirts also will be available.

Jack Stadheim and Ian Smith boosted the Storm to an early 2-0 lead, with Carter Guerin assisting Stadheim’s strike before Stadheim set up Smith’s eventual game-winner. GPS halved the deficit but couldn’t find an equalizer.
U12 Comets Blank GPS

It took a few tries, but Thatcher Bacon gave the Comets the only goal they’d need early in the second half. Thomas Bugg added an insurance marker with a drive to the net.
Roan Palm and Ryder Wilson combined on the shutout. The Comets visit Seacoast on Sunday.
U15 Sparks Rebound

Madeleine Gleeson, Riley McGuire, Mary Rainey and Emilia Torresani all dented the net for the Sparks. Mo McBride backed up the effort in goal with several key saves to keep the Stars at bay.

The run is a fundraiser for the two IRS programs, which receive no school district funding. The 12K route closely follows that of the annual Shaker 7 Road Race, while the day will include a 5K for those seeking a shorter distance. Both events start at 10 a.m.
The cost for the 12K for ages 16 and older is $35 through the end of September, $40 from Oct. 1-26 and $45 on race day. The fee for ages 15 and younger is $5 less in all cases.
The 5K fee for ages 16 and older is $20 through Sept. 30, $25 from Oct. 1-26 and $30 on race day. The fee for ages 15 and younger is $5 in all cases as well.
The day also will include a kids fun run, which costs $2 through Oct. 26 and $5 on race day.

Lions Club 5K at Storrs

The race begins at noon, with registration starting at 10:30 a.m. The start and finish will be at Area 1 near the picnic pavilion. Parking is available near the pond and swimming pool.

The cost to run is $20 for adults and $5 for youths ages 17 and younger. All proceeds from the race will go toward the Norwich Lions Club Community Service Fund, which has been helping community support for more than 60 years.

Ascutney Outdoors CenterOpening Celebration

The building, part of the former Mount Ascutney ski lodge, has been under construction over the past year; once completed, it will serve as the focal point of activities at the mountain in the future. Designed to operate as a community center, the organization anticipates the center will provide opportunities for a wide array of uses once it opens.
The official dedication is set for 4 p.m. Prior to that, visitors will be able to get a taste of what Ascutney Outdoors has to offer with activities including guided hikes, mountain bike tours and horseback trail rides, an outdoor yoga class and a guided nature walk for children. Food, drink and live music will follow the dedication and continue into the evening.

Fall Foliage Ride

The trip along the CVT begins at Kettle Pond in Groton State Forest and will continue to Blue Mountain Union High School in Wells River. Sign-in begins at 9:30 a.m., and the ride gets going at 10 a.m. following a bike check.
The route, covering just less than 20 miles, heads past Groton Lake and Ricker Pond as well as along the shores of the Wells River, with plenty of mountain views and plenty of colorful foliage along the way.

Paddle the Border
Newbury, Vt.
The trip, which should take about 3½ hours to complete, begins at 10:30 a.m. at the Newbury Boat Launch near the Haverhill-Newbury Bridge, finishing at Bugbee Landing beside the Bradford Golf Club. A free shuttle service from Bradford to Newbury will be available between 10-11 a.m. to ferry people and their equipment to the launch site. The trip ends with a barbecue lunch provided by the Woodsville-Wells River Rotary Club.

VBCA Scramble

The tournament features an 18-hole scramble for four-player teams at a cost of $300 per team, which includes golf, power carts, lunch and the chance to win prizes. Registration begins at 9 a.m., with a 10 a.m. tee-off. Prizes will be available for longest drive and closest to the pin, and mulligans also will be for sale.

The tournament consists of four-member teams playing an 18-hole scramble competition. All levels of golf experience are welcome, and players are invited to create their own foursomes for the event. The team entry fee of $240 includes greens fees and carts for each player along with an opportunity to win prizes followed by a post-tournament dinner.
A shotgun start of noon kicks off the action, with dinner and prizes to follow at 4:30 p.m. The tournament will be held rain or shine. Proceeds from the day will go toward the Hartford hockey program.
