The Springfield, Vt., arts venue the Great Hall, tends to hold onto shows for quite a while, so the opening of an exhibition there is noteworthy.
“Healing: The Transformative Imagery of Art” opens next Thursday, with a reception at 5:30 p.m. (The reception is free and open to the public, as are all of the receptions listed in this column.)
Among the 12 artists featured in the exhibition are two from Upper Valley towns: Margaret Jacobs, of Enfield, and Carolyn Enz Hack, of East Thetford. The other artists are all from Vermont, including three from Springfield: Robert O’Brien, Robert Carsten and Neomi Lauritsen.
The show is on view through March 30.
Openings and Receptions
The Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site in Cornish holds its annual “Sculptural Visions” event on Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event features free admission to the park and a range of activities.
This year’s sculptor in residence, Dan Willig, will be present to explain how sculptures are made, and Glen Campbell, who runs a foundry in West Rutland, will demonstrate the “lost wax” method of making sculptures in bronze. There will be opportunities for hands-on activities, including sculpting in clay, metal, foil and felt. For more information, go to www.nps.gov/saga.
BigTown Gallery, in Rochester, Vt., holds a reception from 5 to 7 on Saturday evening for artists Bruce Edelstein (sculptures and watercolors) and Lucy Mink-Covello (abstract paintings). Saturday is also the last chance to see “Sister Show,” an exhibition of work by Los Angeles-based sisters Carolie (paintings) and Laura Parker (photographs). Mink-Covello is the artist-in-residence at Dartmouth College this fall.
Tunbridge Public Library holds a reception from 2 to 4 on Sunday afternoon for North Thetford photographer Allison Clayton, who has a show of two dozen photographs on view through Nov. 3.

The Hall Art Foundation, in Reading, Vt., is offering a tour of one of its current shows, “The Solace of Amnesia,” with its curators, Alexis Rockman and Katherine Gass Stowe, on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The tour costs $40, with registration required. Canaan Meeting House. “And Still We Rise,” an exhibition of quilts made by members of the Women of Color Quilters Network and organized by Louisiana-based historian, curator and quilter Carolyn L. Mazloomi, is on view both at the meeting house and at the Mariposa Museum in Peterborough, N.H. The show comprises 44 quilts, and the bulk of them, 34, are on display in Canaan. CFA sponsors new shows of oil paintings by Katie Runde, at the New London Inn; paintings by Patty Fazio at Bar Harbor Bank and Trust; charcoals and pastels by Sasha Wolfe and photographs by James Mudie at Whipple Hall; and work by members of the Cardigan Mountain Art Association at New London Hospital.
Chelsea Public Library. “Flea Market Finds,” photographs by Mark Dixon, is on view through October. A reception is planned for 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 28.

Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon. The hospital’s summer art exhibition features Becky Cook and NatEli, the Norwich artists behind the collaboration “Miss-Match”; Robert Chapla, an oil painter from Newbury, Vt.; the late David Eckert, who painted hundreds of watercolors while suffering from Parkinson’s disease; North Sutton, N.H.-based photographer Larry Harper; painter Doris Ingram, a part-time resident of Weston, Vt.; oil painter Tatiana Yanovskaya-Sink, based in Rockland, Mass.; and Keene, N.H., oil painter Anne Ward, as well as work by members of the Upper Valley Woodturners.
Hall Art Foundation, Reading, Vt. “Made in Vermont” features work by six Vermont artists, including Upper Valley painter Patrick Dunfey. Also on view: “The Solace of Amnesia,” a group show curated by Alexis Rockman and Katherine Gass Stowe from the Hall Foundation’s collections, and “Hope and Hazard: A Comedy of Eros,” curated by Eric Fischl, another group show of the foundation’s work.

SculptureFest, Woodstock. Dozens of artists, many based in the Upper Valley, exhibit new or continuing work in the annual outdoor showcase of three-dimensional art at the Prosper Road home of Charlet and Peter Davenport and at the nearby King Farm. Featured artists this year are Mary Admasian, of East Montpelier, and Robert Hitzig, of Montpelier. The show typically continues through foliage season. Steven Thomas, Inc. Fine Arts & Antiques, White River Junction. Work by Upper Valley “vintage” artists, such as Alice Standish Buell (1892-1964), Arthur B. Wilder (1857-1949) and Ilse Bischoff (1901-1990) is on view.
Two Rivers Printmaking Studio, White River Junction. A show of prints made at a recent collaboration with Big Ink, the southern-New Hampshire outfit that makes prints on a grand scale, is on view through September.
White River Craft Center, Randolph. “Jack Rowell, Cultural Documentarian: Portraits of Vermont People and Other Wildlife,” a retrospective of the Braintree, Vt., photographer’s work, is on view into the fall.
