Woodstock, Vt. —
He was born in Concord, Mass., Aug. 5, 1923, the second son of Mary W. Parker and Leon F. Foss. He is predeceased by his older brother, Parker Foss and his younger brother Allen Foss. He is survived by his twin sister, Sarah P. Foss; two nephews: David W. Foss, and Peter G. Foss; as well as two grandnieces and one grandnephew; and several god-children.
He was educated in Concord schools and Buckingham Browne ad Nichols, and graduated from Bowdoin College.
In World War II he served as Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy for 4 ½ years in both the European and Pacific theaters.
He worked a total of 38 years as a Senior officer at Banker’s Trust Co., initially in New York City then in then London office in the International Investment Department, specializing in business with worldwide Central Banks. He lived in Bridgewater Corners at “Spingerli” and in Woodstock for 58 years.
He was an active volunteer for a variety of programs. While in New York City, he was a very active tenor in the Blue Hill Troupe and the University Glee Club. He founded the Blue Coat Volunteers at the New York Hospital cancer ward, where he served for over 15 years. In Woodstock, he volunteered for many years on the Boards of Pentangle, VINS, the Woodstock Historical Society and Lucy Mackenzie Humane Society.
For many years, he was an active tennis player and fisherman. He especially enjoyed being an active member of the Lakota Club.
There will be a private burial at his family’s plot at the Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord, Mass.
