Orford, N.H. — Gary C. Pike, 70, died Monday, July 16, 2018, at his home in Orford from Alzheimer’s, with family and friends by his side.

Gary was born on July 4, 1948, in Orfordville, N.H., the son of Allie C. and Marjorie (Heath) Pike, both of whom have predeceased him.

He grew up in Lyme, N.H., attending the Lyme grade school and then graduated from Orford High School in 1967.

Gary leaves his best friend and wife Becky, son Matthew (Hollie); stepdaughter Violet; stepson James (Heather); five grandchildren, Shannon, Devin, Maya, Jeter, Bryanna; seven step-grandchildren, Jacob, Nathaniel, Ryan, Aiden, Rylee, Madison and Austin; his brother Wayne (Robbie); sisters Donna and Lynn (Dean); mother-in-law Hazel; and brothers-in-law Dan, Terry (Rose), Jack (Irene); and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves special friends from Pittsburg, N.H., Bob and Linda Leduc.

A skilled carpenter for over 50 years, he helped to build many homes in the Upper Valley. In his work and his life, he led by example, treating people with kindness and respect. If you needed help, Gary was there with a smile on his face, generous with his carpentry skills and his time.

In addition to the enjoyment he got from his carpentry he also enjoyed snowmobiling with family and friends-many trips from Orford to Pittsburg for a riding weekend. He loved hunting with his son Matthew; they had many favorite hunting spots. After Gary’s work day he’d hop on his tractor and mow fields until dark. He truly loved being outdoors; something he shared with Becky. Times at the camp in Pittsburg were always special- camping, kayaking, four-wheeling, target/skeet shooting and spending times with beloved grandchildren and friends.

Special thanks go to Dr. Francis, his nurses Jen and Eileen and the Wheeler/Carter family for helping on this difficult Alzheimer’s journey. With their considerable support, Gary was able to be at home, which was his place and where he wanted to be.

There will be a celebration of life to honor Gary on Sunday, Aug. 12, 2018, at the Dowd’s Country Inn in Lyme N.H. from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Gary loved a good party and people are invited to come share good memories. To further honor his memory, share a little kindness with others.
