White River Junction — White River Junction Post 84 used a late rally to claim a 9-4 win over Lake Region on Saturday but dropped an 14-11 contest to split a Vermont American Legion doubleheader at the Maxfield Sports Complex.

Lake Region erased a 4-2 deficit in the top of the sixth inning, requiring Post 84 (8-3 league, 10-4 overall) to bring Ryland Richardson into the contest to relieve starting pitcher Robbie Slocum. Richardson got WRJ out of the jam, and the offense responded with a five-run sixth for the win.

Hunter Perkins included an RBI double in a 3-for-3 performance in the opener. Brady Clark had a hit and drove in three runs.

Richardson also had a role in the nightcap, joining Alex Emerson in the 2-for-4 department. Richardson scored three times, while Emerson drove in a pair of runs. Slocum added an RBI double.

Post 84 visits Randolph Post 9 today, then hosts Rutland Post 31 on Tuesday in a battle for the top spot in Vermont’s Southern Division.
